Are you downloading the driver and then running it and getting this message, or are you entering your service tag and not getting the option to download the 6300 driver at all?

Note that the Intel driver gets updated more often and has worked with my Intel cards in a Dell machine for years. I'd keep up to date with the Intel drivers and be worry free from now on.

How much better is that wireless card than the one that comes stock in the m17x R2? I didn't order the better card because it delays the order. Is it marginal or huge?

its not really noticeable IMO unless you have the ability to run high download/upload speeds where i live the best i can get is 3mbs so it really doesn't make a difference imo

I've got the lesser of the two available cards, and I can run at my ISPs full bandwidth when downloading/uploading. I suppose if you transferred large files over a wireless LAN in your home the 6300 would shine. That's about all I can tell you. The 6300 is $45 on ebay, so no biggie if you didn't get it to begin with.

M17x Teardown I think you just gotta pull the palmrest to get to the BT and WiFi cards.

Remove the battery, remove the palm reset and it sits underneath where the touchpad was. As for performance i find the 6300 to be more stable a connection when streaming media to my PS3.
