My M17x R3 screen is acting weird all of a sudden. It keeps turning off and on and the device disconnected/connected sounds keep playing. If I move the screen back and forward on its hinges it sometimes fixes the problem, and if I shut down the computer and restart it always fixes the problem for the startup screens but not the actual windows screens.

So is this a hardware problem or a software problem? Moving back and forth fixing it seems to indicate it is, but the fact that it always shows windows boot-up and then cuts to no screen makes me think it's software. Also, how do I fix this? Should I send it back to Alienware for them to fix it?

I would first take off the keyboard, media panel, etc. and try and reseat the video cable. Something might have come lose. It's not that hard to do, and it would save you a service call.

Find the part on the display assembly. Follow the directions for removing the other components.
