Hello all I am new to this forum but I am seeking assistance with a problem I'm having with my M17xR2. My original A/C power adapter had some problems with the cable that connects to the actual outlet. So I swapped the cable out with another from another dell computer of mine. Recently though my alienware has been having a lot of issues. When I plug the AC adapter in it recognizes the power adapter by the fact that it powers the computer, but the battery will not charge. Nor does it show an acceptable power source is connected. Now that these power problems have occurred there has been drastic performance issues with the laptop. I can barely run anything let alone games. The computer is insanely slow and I'm not sure if it could be that I need a new adapter/ battery, or could there be software issues with the computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

When the laptop starts, enter the bios by pressing F2. Go to the power options or something like that and check if it says 240W under the Adapter rating.
If it doesn't say anything your adapter may be dead or dying.
Try moving the cable (from the adapter to laptop) around a bit to see if you get a 240W reading in bios... if you do you will most likely have to replace the cable.
Also make sure the the charger connector inside the laptop isn't too loose, and that the center pin is connected to the motherboard.MickyD1234 likes this. -
after 2 attempts where the laptop didnt have any W in the BIOS and shut off instantly i wiggled the cord and got 150W was the highest I could it

Two things...
The motherboard pin where the psu enters maybe on it's way out and needs replacing... see here
or
do the following...
* Shut down the system
* Remove the AC adapter connection and battery from the PC
* Hold down the AlienHead power button for 10 seconds
* Place the battery back into the system and plug in the AC Adapter
* Turn on the system and enter Windows. The battery should be recognized now and charging. If the battery is recognized but not charging, toggle FN+F2 until it shows that the battery charging is enabled. Verify this by checking the status bar that the battery is charging
