i'm having an issue with my m17x r1.. specs in sig.. i'm having random freezing then the system is running anything from a broswer/winamp/gaming/even just going through files on my system.

    troubleshooting i've one
    - system came with vista bus - ran the upgrade for win 7 pro when it came out.
    - reinstalled with a full copy of win7 pro - have done this 3 times
    - install the latest drivers for all devices when they're available
    - i picked up a 500gb hdd and installed a fresh copy of win7 to that instead of the 250gb hdd that came with the system
    - ran a full suite of est from PC check diagnostic software and nothing failed in the system.

i'm not sure if anyone has some suggestions but anything would be great. I'm going to contact AW this week and try getting some stuff going with them as this is really frustrating.

was advised of this thread and just wondering if anyone has had any luck with their R1's and support from AW...

Is your screen going black? Are you getting any BSOD's? Cause I'm having those issues, I am just running off the intergrated graphics right now.

I'm having same issue. Sometime screen turns black but the sound and cursor work. Other times the screen is completely frozen and I cant move the mouse. Happens while browsing and while gaming at random times. It started with me after tech support updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers. SO with NVIDIA drivers I get freezing and with the latest Dell driver I get latency.

This may sound strange but since you said you have "all the latest drivers" installed, you may want to check to see if you are running the nvidia P07 drivers.

If you are.. uninstall them ASAP and go back to the P06 version drivers.

I was having a very similar issue when I 'updated' to the P07 nvidia display drivers and everything went back to normal when I removed them.

    Good luck

What version of the nVidia drivers are you folks using? I was using 197.85 w/o issues and then I upgraded to 4870's in CrossFireX and the 280's in SLi sit on the shelf.

well i was on the phone with alienware today and after about an hour and half of them remoting into my system to update the drivers and install them in the correct order then tech couldn't install the network card drivers they kept stalling.

so now i've backed up everything and am working on a fresh install of win 7 ent

being that i bought this system in september of last year, is there anything that dell/alienware would do for the system?

i'm going to finish this fresh install and see how that goes with following their steps for the order to install the drivers...... gah 3k+ for a system that doesnt work properly.. i've had way better luck with my lenovo x201 but it wont game worth a d@m|\| :(

screen doesn't go black, any open program goes into not responding and if i say click on start/my computer/windows explorer anything really.. once it comes back to life after about 10-15 seconds everything comes up all at once. Doesn't matter if i'm on the 9400 or the 260's sli'd

I had a similar issue with my r1 when I updated to windows 7 and I fixed it by uninstalling the storage drivers and letting windows install its own.
Try it and see if it gets rid of it.

I can certainly recommend installing the P06 graphics driver.

I am having the same problem as the OP, and I am running the newest driver from Dells website the 257.38, P07. Where do I find the P06 driver?

    Thanks.

    Hi,
having a similar issue, i can tell that reinstalling the p06 drivers doesn't change anything, still freezes, and freezes when changing from 9400m to 280 m sli (hard reboot needed)

going back to the old october/november whql dell drivers, is fixing the last issue, but all videos, youtube, .mkv or .avi display a magnifiscent single green picture ...
also, those drivers which were ok when installing them in october ( or november) are now crashing a lot while playing too ...

hope there will be a fix soon to the "P07 drivers installing mistake" ...

or if you have a solution, ( I already uninstalled and reinstalled more than 10 different drivers in safemode ... cleaning and sweeping the computer from the old one ...)

edit: running on integrated graphics is ok... at least

ok... so the latest drivers on the dell site make me have a black screen when the 260's are enabled.. with the 9400 only its fine.. going to try the p06 drivers and see if that helps.

I don't even try to play since i installed those drivers ...
5000 € (approximatively 6360,5139$ today, 7000 last year when i bought it ...) for a big heavy eeepc ... sweeeet
