    My seven year old HP DV9030 us went south on me tonite. It didnt owe me anything so I pulled the trigger on a 17x 3D. I was trying to install win7 then gave up and tried to reinstall xp. In the end it would not recognize the cdrom. It kept giving bsod so I wrote it off and ordered the 17x. Well I decided to gi e it one more shot, pulled and reseated the rram and the dvd drive. Low and behold it booted and installed win7 no problem. I am still stoked about the 17xrram but at least I will have a pc til I get it. Oh and I almost forgot, I got a free xbox 2!

    Going from an HP to an AW will be a phenomenal experience for you, that's for sure :) And yeah, that xbox deal is superb. For those who already have an xbox, they sell for 150$ so keep that in mind.

    You'll be very happy with your new toy!

    Agreed with Voodooi, on another note though, try replacing your old HDD, maybe that is the issue, or even the cd-rom. The old HP, if you could get it working may make a good gift for a granny :p Thats what I did with my fiance's old HP. Thats if you can get a new cd drive cheap enough that it's worth it.

    OP would surely agree with me that they don't make HPs like they used to. You should keep the old one, or gift it to your parent/grandparent, cuz it'll prolly last a few more years if you clean it up.

    I hate you... How did you get a free xbox? They told me it doesnt come with the m17x R3, so I couldnt get one!?!?! I even already had my promo code from my edu website.... ....

    I was told the same thing - I might have to contact Dell and give them some grief. Maybe if I threaten to send mine back they'll cough up an xbox for me...

    I talke to Dell rep last week about this machine and asked about the xbox promo then. They told me it was not available on the alienwares. When I ordered it last night I decided to ask again. The rep said let me talk to the mananger. When he returned he said he got approval for it. I would definitely go back and ask!

    My rep got me the Xbox, too. Call Dell again and do what Johnfish said, because the Xbox is DOPE once you have both. I have played Xbox in bed for 3 nights straight now!

    After getting the run around for ever they said you can get it, if you cancel and reorder... like !!!! I dont have time before I deploy!!!

    I had to set up a return of my current one, and order a new one to get the Xbox. Sucks, but it allowed me to do some upgrades that I should have ordered in the first place.

    Sorry to hear you can't work it out before you deploy - that's crummy. :(
