And im wondering
1. Will this fit my M17x-R1?
2. Does it worth upgrading from my T9600 to this 1? I mean the improving on performance, and the price also (yeah i'll sell my T9600 later on)

No bios support is needed for this feature as long as your laptop boots up. Going from the default 2400 MHz to 3600 MHz would be a noticeable difference and put a big smile on your face. -

1-Yes it will
2-Depends on what you're doing with your PC, some programs/apps can not utilize more than 1-2 cores if you use those kind of apps stock the T9600 runs faster, if you use a lot of multi-threaded apps the Q9200 is faster. I personally wouldn't pay that much for an ES version of that CPU, but that's just me. I would buy a QX9300 non-ES/QS before that.
3-It is possible to overclock it, but each individual CPU is different some will hold an overclock some won't. -
The best ebay price for a QX9300 at the moment is $649 and up. $268 for a QX9200 is a fair price and if it doesn't work out, someone else will buy this at a similar price.
It has the same CPUID of 0x1067A as a retail QX9300 E0 stepping so functionally, it should be exactly the same. It's not an early ES CPU that some people on ebay like to sell. -

I wasn't saying by any means that it's not a good cpu, just I would personally not buy most ES cpu's as there are too many issues that CAN exist with them that don't usually effect OEM type cpu's. I was looking for a QX9300 on here a few weeks ago before I had my R1 replaced and there are a few members that were willing to sell one for a lot lower than $649.

I will look around for a week or so, after then i might buy the QX9200 praying that its a stable OC'd version -
Wow, old thread, but helped me =^_^= I am researching the Q"X"9200 for my M17x R1, (I did buy it on Ebay for $250... at the same time I got a second 500GB 7,200RPM HD "$50.oo") from what I hear this is a great processor, and I am sad that it is treated like the step-child of intel, and has been forgotten. From what I gather the QX9300 (2.5Ghz) is the best you can get for the M17x R1, so an overclocked Q"X"920 (2.4Ghz and up) could run the same load. This is a great saving, and saved me from buying an M17x R2! This "should" keep me happy for some time. I had no idea the T9600 was, well not bad. It is a great processor, but not strong enough for what I play.

You might want to do some research about overclocking these Core 2 based Extreme processors.

It takes about 2 seconds to unlock the QX9200 multiplier and get it running at the exact same speed as a much more expensive QX9300. Two seconds later, you can increase the multiplier another notch and be running faster than a stock QX9300.
You made a wise choice.
Post in that thread above when you get your new CPU.
Maybe you'll get a good one and it will run like scook9's QX9300.

Contact him so you can get some info about what bios version works best with the R1 to minimize the amount of throttling. -

Why is QX9100 and QX9200 not included in Intel's extreme processors list?
It just have QX9300 in the list. -

I think because they were never released to the public, you will only find ES versions.

Not everything that Intel dreams up makes it to the retail market. I found a very interesting list a while ago of some of the CPUs that never made it including a QX9500 and a QX9700.
iNTEL Mobile CPU
I don't think the MHz are listed correctly for these two. Maybe a dusty box of QX9700 CPUs will magically show up on Ebay someday from one of the Chinese sellers that seems to get their hands on quite a few ES CPUs and are able to sell them without Intel or EBay shutting them down.
