If there are any R1 owners in search of a QX9300 (most awesome cpu available for this laptop) then I thought it may interest you all to know that OEM versions of this CPU are available from Alienware eBay for only $540 right now! It says they are "refurbished" but the fact is that cpus rarely ever get damaged. These are almost certainly working pulls from systems they could not sell in the outlet and therefore a great deal!

Hope this helps someone in search of these monsters

    Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300 2.53 GHz Processor - eBay (item 180574870818 end time Nov-14-10 08:29:22 PST)!

Yeah, that CPU is an absolute beast. I had DPC latency issues like a motha though. Had to switch to the X9100, unfortunately. Is that fixed in the R1 yet Scook?

DPC has been fixed for a long time. The QX9300 was not the cause (or any hardware for that matter) but actually the nvidia display drivers.

I have ATIs now though...so no DPC haha - just sick performance (see sig ;) )

The only mobile cpu that can beat the qx9300 is the 920xm/940xm - anything less loses to it so still #2 hehe (since those are the same chip.....)

Oh. I had an ATI card from the get-go. Never had an NV card. Glad they fixed it though. Was it a BIOS update that finally fixed it?

BIOS A03 seemed to help alot but mainly it was the nvidia drivers

I actually use A02 usually since it has a higher power threshold before stuttering compared to A03

    Yeah! R1 Rules... ;)
Also after you get this CPU, you will get $10 ebay bucks so its like $ 530 for the CPU.

Are there any issues to worry about regarding throttling if im using throttlestop? I would definitely be OCing it along with my GPU's. If there are no issues then i might consider it.

The throttling happens when your total system power draw gets above a certain threshold. It is around 225 W for A03 and up I believe. For A02 it seems to be around 260W

No worries. When overclocking you have to expect things like this to happen, at stock it is fine.

Yes thats sucks. Because the only way (for me ) to get it is buying it and ask to AW to send it to miami, where I hired a postal service who deliver to my country. But then I am forced to pay taxes, 20% of 550 dollars = $110 , hence to me the final value will be $ 660, I wish I had that money :(
