I have a Mxm 3.0 (a) Quadro FX 880m just lying around here. I've been curious for quite some time if it would work in my M17x.

It seems to me that there has been very very little experimentation by users to see if other video cards will work in their systems. There's been a lot of speculation, but not a lot of actual physical evidence as to if anything other than the video card options the M17x shipped with will work in it. Might be because people don't have access to other MXM cards.

So since I happen to have a semi obscure MXM card, I want to see if it'll work. I guess I'm just asking if there is anything I should be aware of before I do the swap that I might be ignorantly forgetting. Cooling and power shouldn't be an issue because the Fx 880m uses FAR less than a 4870.

Give it a try but I doubt it will work due to lack of bios support.

That's what i'm trying to figure out haha. We'll see if it works.

There was no bios support for the GTX 470m in an older M-15x, yet it did boot and run at 2D clocks.

I'm thinking bios support isn't necessarily necessary.

Should I uninstall my ATI drivers before swapping the cards?

I think it would work, if the heatsink fits.

Well the card physically fits, and the heatsink fits perfectly.

The computer will turn on, and it WILL go into the bios screen, but windows won't boot.

Not sure what this means . . . If it goes into the bios, it does post right?

Well that card is based off the GT 330M graphics. If you have a spare Hard drive try Install windows onto that Hard drive and see if your able to get anywhere.

So did you end up uninstalling the ATI driver?

I uninstalled the ATI drivers yeah, but I did leave my slave card in the other slot. . . maybe I should have taken that out. I won't have time to mess with it until Monday, so I'll try taking the other card out then, and installing windows on another HDD and I'll tell you how it goes.
