It has been made clear that Optimus is not available in 3D models because the graphic processing is directly hardwired to the Nvidia GPU because Intel's inbuilt GPU doesnt support 120Hz screen.

Hence it bypasses the Intel GPU. In view of this I would like to know if we loose the ability to utilise Quick Sync technology that allows quicker encoding and decoding or videos etc.

Or do we retain the ability to use this technology despite not being able to use the inbuilt Intel GPU in Alienware M17x R3 3D models.

    This is my query. Thanks.

But according to detailed reviews Intel's Quick Sync is many times faster than dedicated GPUs.

Yes, any Nvidia GPU based on the 8xxx and higher series graphics cards can encode on the GPU, providing that the encoding software supports CUDA. Badaboom is one of them, but I am not known of any others that do.

Intel's is supposed to be MUCH faster than any dedi GPU currently. But AFAIK you can not. I would love to be proved wrong, however.

If it makes you feel better, Optimus is a big pain in the *** at the best of times.
It's not really useful in laptops. But that's my opinion.
