Trying to figure out what is normal for my system. Any links or tips on this. Just got this R2 today and ran 3dmark06. Only got a score of 14062.

System info is listed as Replacement 3 in sig. Just trying to get a baseline as I test this thing out.

for an i7-720qm machine that's right in the ball park. 3do6 wont scale great with the 720 beacuse of the low clock speed. 14-5k without over clocking is normal with the 720qm cpu. run vantage that will tell you weather or not your gpus are working properly.

Yea, for an i7 thats normal. Keep in mind that the 720 is maybe half the speed of the 920XM. And because 3DMark06 is so CPU dependant, your score is going to be lower. That looks right for a stock setup.

Ok thanks guys. I hear about stealth mode a lot, where do you turn that on or off? Power settings all seem to be correct, is that a BIOS setting? I havnt poked around in this thing much.

Yup definatly the right out of the box stock score, i have the same with my i7-720qm depending on which driver i use, its between 14005 and 14150, something like that.

Stealth mode is the uper rightest button (looks like a speed indicator) above the numpad. It's a software thingy. You may want to avoid that button , as even if you go to battery stealth mode is automaticly applied, and should also automaticly revert back to high perfomance when you plug in power cord again. Other than that, i don't see any useful application to enable this manually while on A/C Power.

Yeh its pretty normal score it seems. I scored just over 15k on the 1st run. Stock drivers.

Now after running on the new dell drivers I score 14k odd. Cheers.

Maybe you want to try setting everything to max performance instead of picture quality in CCC, then test if it changes on the score. Should be very minimal tho, maybe 100+. Also the score may vary heavily depnding on current cpu usage and background processes in windows.

Oh yups cheers for the tip. I'm not to fussed with the scores.
I did turn everything to max in CCC though. So yeh I'm guessing that will account for the 1000 less score. Cheers.

Uh yes, Brian is giving out a new vbios that supports latest 10.8 cats (dell or ati one, doesnt matter, and sleep/hibernate/battery works on both drivers)

It's not backwards compatible in anyway tho (atleast not at the moment)! Though i don't have any problems about reverting back since i installed a fresh windows yesterday, and default drivers are vga, so whenver i uninstall catalyst, it will safely load on vga drivers, and you can install whatever 10.8 you like better. And yes i already tested all other official previous drivers (10.5-10.7) which all BSOD right before Windows / on Aliensense.

Yeh the VBIOS from yesterday for the 5870 dell cards only. The one you can PM Brian for or ask someone else from here to send it to you.
I have it if you would like it. Cheers.

From what i can tell you, sleep/hibernate/booting on battery has been fixed, also a new thermal profile was added to the vbios that should prevent gpus from overheating when the gpu reaches a certain value in temperature, it will throttle down. Kudos go to Joker for finding that in ATIBiosEditor.

And maybe, although no backwards compatibility before 10.8 drivers, it may support future official cats more properly (we will find out with a 10.8beta release or a 10.9 release next month). Atleast i can tell you for sure, that 10.8 officials are working, same as dells beta driver 10.8. Didn't check ingame performances yet. Have to install some games first again.

Interesting. Just sent you a PM. Anyone noticed improved gaming performance with the new vbios and drivers? I am going to install SC2 tonight and play for the first time this weekend.

Just going back here a wee bit....my original system (720qm 4gb cf 5870 stock from the box) was scoring the following:

    3dMark06 - 13808
    3dMark Vantage - P12048/cpu 10573/gpu/12552

Think this is a kinda normal score as im running a07 and stock dell drivers without new vbios/drivers....

    Comments anyone??

Is this odd or is it just me......just ran 3dMark06 a few times without making changes to anything and my scores varied quite a bit from 13300ish up to 13800ish??

    Any reasons for that?

Could be that a background process increased/decreased try using MSconfig to stop services/programs running that arent necessary for benchmarking.

Stevie, the 3dmark 06 benchmark is heavily dependant on CPU. So the run will always be very different as there is always something in the background that takes some usage, if you can't eliminate those influences, it won't be constant ever. As craig says, you might want to disable some functions like he is suggesting, or kill some processes via task manager. Good luck :D

Thats fair enough, indeed i probably have some crap running in the background, i just wasnt sure if it was supposed to be roughly the same each run.....
