so here's the deal. I put my 8gb RAM into my M11x and need new 8gb RAM for my M17x. Currently I have the HyperX 2x2gb RAM in my M17x right now. But, since I put the HyperX RAM in, my cpu bios overclock will give me BSOD, even at 1% (anyone else have this issue with any 1333 2x2gb RAM). So I'm wondering if the 8gb HyperX will also give me the BSODs. I want the best RAM, that's why I need to know if the Kingston HyperX RAM is 100% error free. Otherwise I'll have to settle for the G. Skill or OCZ.

forgot to mention, my 2x2gb HyperX RAMs run way hotter than regular RAM. is this normal for HyperX?

i;m not to familiar with M17x oc'ing. but the hyperX do run hotter because of the lower latency. if your not into benching then i recommend the cas9.

the 8gb HyperX RAM is also 9 cas. but the speed is DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) which don't matter because the M17x is limited to 1333 right?

yes the M17x like the M15x is limited to 1333.

i had the hyper 1333 cas7 and those ran to hot for me, i would bsod when gaming over an hour.

There is no such thing as "100% error free RAM" from any manufacturer. Every manufacturer has its bad sticks from time to time and none can guarantee that they will stand up to your specific overclocks. Kingston is one of the best you can get, though.

I know every company has their share of bad sticks of RAM, what I meant was for 100% error free from compatibility/heat issues/overclocking issues/etc. the 2x2gb HyperX I have overclocks fine in M17xR1, but it BSODs in the R2. I have no idea why this is.

If you're just trying to get the RAM to work, and not OC it in the R2, go to Kingston's website and figure out your timings/CAS latency/etc and manually put them in BIOS. I've seen where BIOS hasn't autodetected RAM timings properly and this causes it to BSOD in some systems.

i have no clue on how to change timings for the RAM through the bios for the R2. only thing I see for RAM is the voltage.

The HyperX 8GB may be Cas9 at 1600, so it may be down to Cas7 at 1333MHz. I have used the 22 HyperX 1333MHz RAM, and didnt have any issues with it. Havn't been able to bench with it yet though s I can't say for sure, but the system operated fine when I used it for normal things. Even gaming I believe. But as it stands, I eep the G.Skill 1333MHz 8GB kit in my system. It's also what I used for benchmarking before I got the HyperX. Actually my 3DMark06 score was done with the HyperX RAM 4GB 1333MHz kit.

Have you tried increasing the RAM voltage?

is there any benifit to getting 1600 ram over the 1333 speeds... can this unit take advantage of the extra speed, or is it not worth the money?

The m17x is limited to 1333Mhz.
To benefit of the 1600Mhz freq. the hyper x ram need to be installeda machine that:
    1) Supports the freq(of course)
    2) Another advantage is that the timings can be changed for these(also needs a mobo w/ BIOS that supports this)

so if i get a hyperx ram 4x2 8GB and its 1600mhz thats ok? my m17x r2 will just adjust it to 1333mhz? are you %100 sure about this??

also, what about crucial ram? how is that i heard good things about that and its the higher price of the ones, and its only $100-$110 so i dont mind buying the more expensive one because it is so cheap.

so what do you think is the better bet? from what i asked everyone is saying the hyper X is really good ram, but i couldnt find it in 1333mhz, i didnt no 1600mhz would get adjusted to 1333mhz

OCZ give lifetime warranty just like kingston, I had to swap my ram with OCZ once and they gave me better sticks then the ones i had sent in, I have nothing but praise for them, they were very friendly and fast as well

As long as the pin count and type are the same you should be able to use any ram, since the HyperX is 204 pin DDR3 you should be fine it will just run at 1333 ;)

I got mine earlier this week.
Stuff runs just fine (no issues) in my R2 (I had some gSkill 8gb 1333 before this).
My "old" (ie.. 2 months old) gSkill 1333 would NOT go above 1333 speed (but was SUPER stable at 1333 speed) but this runs just fine with the 5%OC on stock voltage (could still go faster via SetFSB if my proc could handle it)

I am trying to decide if it is worth running the 5% OC in conjunction with ThrottleStop as on default FSB my proc will run 24x multi on all cores with no problem (just slight TDP/TDC increase) and 25x multi on all cores with a bit more (TDP@95 and TDC@80).

With the 5% OC, I need the higher TDP/TDC (95/80) to keep the 24x multi stable on all 4.

Overall, I am happy with the stuff.
I still have my original KingstonHyperX 4gb kit that I bought for my R1 (in my spare $250 emachine now) running like a champ.
