Hi there. I'm looking to build the Alienware 17 up to be stream capable for the future released WoW expansion and then to move into single player games on high or ultra settings while keeping the longevity of the laptop for around 3-4 years.
I'm a returning gamer coming from a hiatus that mostly plays World of Warcraft, Dota 2 and beyond that multiple single player games such as Metro, Batman, Watch_Dogs, you get the gist.
I'll only be settling on a laptop as it's perfect for my living needs.
The build I made;
4th Gen Intel Core i7-4710MQ Processor (6MB Cache, up to 3.5GHz w/ Intel Turbo Boost)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M with 8GB GDDR5
16GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz
256GB mSATA SSD Boot + 1TB 5400RPM SATA 6Gb/s- NV
17.3" 120Hz WLED FHD TrueLife w/3D Bundle (1920 x 1080)
Windows 8.1 64bit
Total: £2,018.99
I mainly streamed before I stopped gaming in the summer, and I'm in need for a new laptop to be able to handle games in 720p or higher (1920x1080 ingame) via Twitch to replace my far too big desktop.
*If anyone has any suggestions on other companies I'm open to listening*
My DL: 66.83mbs
My Upload: 8.24mbs

You really need to do some research. Follow this link, read the post above and the posts after.

Anyway, back to your question about Streaming: The Alienware 17 is capable of doing so. However, Streaming takes a lot of CPU power as well as GPU power. Upgrading to the 4910MQ would actually serve you well. The GTX 880M is to be replaced in about a month. You are much better off waiting until this time. The next generation of hardware will outperform it by a fair amount. -
Thanks a lot, and yeah I need to do some researching. Was just hoping for a fast reply.
So wait a month, will the 4910MQ be relevant for a while or will that be replacable in a months time?
Thanks again! -
Broadwell isn't expected to come out until the beginning of next year. From what we've seen, Broadwell looks like it will perform the same as Haswell (current generation) but consume less power. So, performance wise, there's not much worth waiting for. The new graphics cards will be coupled with the current Haswell CPU's throughout the winter season.

I'd honestly would rather a 780GTX but that's gone from the Alienware listing. Shame.
Thanks for the help! -
And, no problem. Happy to help. -
