    Hi guys.

Goal: Use the TV as the monitor/external output of my laptop

    Problem:
    - I tried using the HDMI cable of my friend's XBOX and it doesnt work.
I noticed there are 2 hdmi ports on my laptop, one is HDMI-IN and the other one is HDMI-OUT.
I checked our TV and it has only one HDMI port.
I tried both ports on my laptop (hdmi-in and hdmi-out) and use the keyboard combination (fn + something) to change the output,
but whenever i try to select the external display,
my laptop goes dark ( which is okay), but the problem is nothing happens on the TV. I tried every possible modes of the TV ( AV, HDMI, etc etc) still nothing happens.

    My video card is GTX675m.

Note: My friend's generic dell laptop ( office laptop) works just fine using the HDMI cable from the XBOX. And it only has one HDMI port.

    Question:
    - Do I need to buy a generic HDMI cable and not use the one from the XBOX?
    - Which one is the correct port if I want to use the TV as my laptop's output? HDMI IN or HDMI OUT ?

HDMI Out might be correct, but are you sure the TV's HDMI port is "In"?

Hi, It's the HDMI out that you connect to the TV. The 'IN' is for things like having an x-box outputting to the AW screen.

Mine just works when I plug it in. I did purchase a new cable (1.4) and also got a mini-port converter to HDMI just to see if it was any different but it appears to work exactly the same, as soon as I connect it switches over to the TV.

I just connected to where the XBOX is connected. so basically, i removed the cable from the xbox and connected it to my laptop. I never disconnect the cable from the tv itself.

Have you also tried using the xbox hdmi cable?

I don't have one but I would have thought it would work, maybe the HDMI port is faulty, my first R3 was not working and the MB was replaced, but that was obviously a bad connection since I could wiggle it and the display would come to life.

Try dropping down the resolution before connecting it, it could be that the TV cannot sync so give 720 a try.

I don't think that you would normally have to do this but what you may try is dropping your AW's screen refresh rate from 120Hz to 60Hz before connecting it to the TV...see if that works.

That could work. If you have a 3D screen on the AW. Drop the refresh rate and connect it. You also need an HDMI 1.4 cable. Not sure if the XBOX one would work.
