First let me start off by saying i am a pround new member to the forums as a member but not to the site in general and secondly hello to everyone at NBR.

    My question:
I am looking to start a chasis mod and I wanted to know if the chasis layout and motherboard design as the same within the 2 revisions. The reason for this is I have found alot of cases for the R1 for cheap but I just want to make sure it would be feasible to be used with all my R2 internals?

I know this might sound all jumbled up but I'm doing this from my iPhone lol. So it might be jumbled up.

R1 and R2 cases are identical.

And one more question ( something that's been eating away at me for awhile I have an R2 but my friend has an out of warranty R1) let's say he has an R1.

If the chasis's are identical internally, then hypothetically wouldn't one be able to purchase the mobo and i7 CPU of there choice from a R2 and keep their existing parts (given it's a 280m or 4870 gfx cards)? In theory if the chasis are identical I should Be possible to make do a laptop upgrade yourself to a R2

In terms of what if the chasis design is identical from the R1 to the R2 even though the mobo is different it should still have the same mount up spots to be installed?

To do the swap, you need the primary mainboard, the processor HSF, Magnesium top plate, a ppga998 processor, and 4870, 5870 or 285 graphic(s) card(s). The daughterboards should be identical. Sourcing an R2 mainboard right now however is easier said than done.

only the LCD backplate and the bottom plate of the R1 and R2 are the same, the magnesium top plate is different and not compatible between the two. You could use an R1 top plate on an R2 if you're willing to cut it up a little however, the only different part are the holes pre-drilled for the CPU HSF's, since they're different between the R1 and R2. It should be noted that this is still all in theory, to my knowledge no one has acutally confirmed that the mounting holes match 100%. I'm just basing my analysis on the fac tthat I did not notice any large differences in disecting my R1 and R2, TheMoo guid along with various other R2 pictures look similar, but still, no physical matching has been done.

Awesome thank you for that info. I guess it settled some bit of curiosity for my friend. All in all I just don't want to shoot myself in the foot buying a r1 nebula chasis and my R2 internals not fitting properly.
