I am one day away from delivery on a new M17x R3 with 8gb of RAM, which seems like it will be enough for now, it has the i7 2720QM, which according to the intel site is only capable of 16gb of total ram, so does this mean it would be impossible to upgrade to 32gb when the price of 8gb sticks go down, even though it has 4 slots?

Every technical spec I can dig up says a max of 16GB. 8GB will be enough for quite some time, unless you're using VMs or something that uses a TON of RAM. I have 8GB of RAM, and I doubt I've ever used more than 3GB. Upgrade it to 16GB, if you run applications that are maxing out the 8GB you've already got, and call it a day. 32GB of RAM is insane.

yeah, its mostly a theoretical question as I've seen both 16gb and 32gb listed as maximum RAM amounts.

Even 8gb is probably overkill, and I will be using VM's! I would stick with 8gb for now and maybe get 16gb in 4 sticks of HyperX PnP later. You will only need over 8gb for professional apps.

Yeah, it got here today, and I am not even coming close to using all of my memory so far, so I think 8gb might work very well for the foreseeable future.

Anyone know where the other 2 RAM slots are? I've only found 2. I'm a little worried because I ordered 4 sticks of 4 GB from NewEgg today, Item#: N82E16820104257. I hope it works. Anyone use these memory modules yet?

They're under the keyboard. Lots of videos online showing how to get to them. Do a search and you'll find them.

I have two sticks of DDR3 RAM but they clock at 1066 instead of 1333 mhz. Will i benefit from installing 8GB of 1066 vs my current 4GB of 1333 mhz RAM?
