Hello everyone. I just got a brand new M17. It's the new r5 base model with the 1080p screen. I played around with it earlier and all the lights were changing fine. I installed a SSD today and also installed windows to the SSD. I loaded all the drivers from the disk to get everything working.

The problem I am having is that the Alienware lights are not changing at all. Right now, the color is a light blue. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the control center but that doesn't help. I've tried installing it from the disk as well as the website.

Also, when I enter the control center, I can see the lights and all the different zones. When I change a color on the screen and hit apply, the color changes on the screen but not on the laptop. The laptop is always the same color. Even hitting the F12 AlienFX key doesn't turn off the lights. Is there anything I can do to get this fixed? As far as I can tell, everything is working fine although I haven't started to run any benchmarks yet.

Try a power drain, then a BIOS update and Finally, update the AWCC to the A01 version located at support.dell.com. Once you do that, do a power drain again.

Thanks for responding. Just a quick question though, since I already have the AWCC A01 installed, I should uninstall it before the power drain right?

No problem. Yup, please uninstall it, also remember to delete all the themes under the Alienware Command Center folder (My documents)

We have also received some information that there was a .net framework update recently that may be interfering with the AWCC.

    Try this:

    1- Uninstall Command Center
2- Download latest Command Center from support.dell.com
    3- Uninstall .Net Framework 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5
    4- Restart the computer
    5- Install .net Framework 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5
6- Run Windows Updates and verify there is no pending updates missing (avoid installing hardware driver updates).
    7- Restart the computer
8- Install the Command Center just downloaded

Thanks so much for the info. I finally got the lights back up and running. It took a combination of me uninstalling everything including the .net stuff. Once I reinstalled everything, it still didn't work correctly. It was after I updated the bios to A05 that the lights started to work. Thanks again!

Be warned several parts if my previous alienware 17 would only work after a bios reflash. Concluding that the motherboard was bad. There have been some reports that a bad batch of motherboards were produced for some machines experiencing similar issues. So if this returns consider a replacement motherboard or system.

Thanks for the info. I got this model from Amazon and it's the config that that Dell stopped selling (base model plus 1080p screen). I hope it doesn't have a bad board but I will keep using it everyday to be sure.

Hell yes it was. My total was $1500 after tax. I thought about getting the 770m but this was too of a deal to pass up. The 765m turned out to be better than I thought even though I won't be doing too much gaming on this.
