I was running a scan with my AV and playing game at the same time. I opened the intel turbo mode monitor just to see how it was doing and I was surprised it was moving from 1.7 ghz (base clock) to around 2.1 ghz.. but most the time it was staying 1.7 ghz with the energy saver leaf icon ..... Is that normal?? I'd like to use the full performance of it

Max turbo mode is supposed to be 2.8 ghz if i recall correctly.

    Thank you

MAX turbo actually disables all but one core. There is also a speed prior to that where it has all enabled. If its not a quad then its a little different. Its normally only going to turbo when it sees the need and to what point depends on the threads running and the temperature conditions.

Yes, 2.8GHz for the 720. It hardly ever runs at that speed. I think the most I have ever seen mine hit was a spike of 2.6GHz

I'm saving for a 940XM. If my understanding is correct, the 940 can run at the maximum multiplier speed even with all of the cores in use. I don't know if the 920XM has that capability also, but I would consider the 920 if it did. It's half the cost of the 940.

I have the 2720QM, how do I check "intel turbo mode monitor"? Do I have to download it or something? No idea where to find it.

    Thx!

The only thing different between 920xm and 940xm are 133Mhz more on 940. That's it. Beside this both of them are xm cpu's.

Yup the 920XM CPU can run at max multiplier on all 4 cores just like the 940XM.
So in terms of pricing it is a great deal when compared to the 940XM prices.

    Cheers. :)

Super! Thanks for clarifying that. Sounds like the 920XM is definitely the better bargain.
