    Sup guys!

I was needing some help regarding a good selling price for my M17xR2. It is still in the sealed box from Dell, I've never taken it out. The thing is, I have the Dell M2010 and I love this thing so I really don't need the Alien.

The Alien, like I said, is brand new in the unopen box; it was built for me and NOT a refurb. Below are the specs, please let me know what a good asking price is. BTW, I've had it less than 6 months and paid around $4300 for it IIRC.

Thanks Bro! Yeah it's balls out, the only thing it doesn't have are the SSD HD (I still don't trust them, lol) and maxed Ram, besides that, it stuffed with the goods.

All the Aliens on Flebay are refurbs and mine is NOT refurbished, it was built for me. I posted a craigs list ad asking $3500/obo, but got no hits so I'm wondering if that's too much now that the 18xR3 are out. It just sucks that I paid FULL RETAIL for it then like 3 months later the 18 comes out and now I might need to practically give it away

I just want to try to get a fair asking price so i don't rip anyone off, or more importantly, rip myself off ;)

This is the wrong forum for you question. I'm selling a bunch of random stuff on ebay as we speak. I rarely make what I'm looking to make. Hopefully you have a better go at it with your laptop. If you slap a couple of 6970M or 6990Ms in it, you'll make a LOT more money.

Oh damn sorry about that guys! Which forum should I ask this in? How much do 69xxMs go for? My bud is a dell tech and he works on these everyday so I can have a cert Dell tech put them in. I know you said it's the wrong forum to ask, but what kind of price increase am I looking at if I were to do the mod?

are selling it to upgrade or because you just want to get rid of it?

if you're wanting more power, just upgrade the vidcards, and maybe add a ssd...the m18x's have XF 6970's or 6990's and are all sporting i7 sandy bridge processors so it will be tough to get $3500 for your R2 unfortunately :(

BTW...there is value in the R2 because you have the 1900x1200 screen that they dont make anymore...and many people just like the R2 chassis better...those are huge selling points

the cards aren't cheap...6970's will run you about $500-600 each. Maybe you can get them for cheaper

Unfortunately your laptop is probably only worth about $1600 tops. The 940xm is an awesome CPU, but the new entry level 2630 is just as good. Also the 6990m is equal to your xfire 5870s. A new comparable system would be about $2000-2100. Factor all that in and you are looking at $1600 used.

eBay is your best bet. You could sell it here, but this forum is full of savvy shoppers who won't get ripped off and will only jump for a good deal. eBay on the other hand, despite the fees, is full of suckers and you could get lucky.

The R2 has a lot of advantages, it is very upgradable and has the best monitor out there. Why do you want to sell it!

With upgraded 6970 or 6990 cards, it would be phenomenal.

NO... I have a Dell M2010, the 20.1" laptop with the detachable bluetooth keyboard. I love this thing even though it's getting dated, but it's such a unique laptop that I can't get rid of it, plus it was $8,900 lol....

I just don't really need the Aline so I rather sell it than let it collect dust.

If you never seen the M2010.... Enjoy :D

See post 10 for reason for I'm selling ;)

Ehhh.... $1600... I just puked in my mouth! That sucks! I paid out around $4300+ for that damn a few months back... damn!

Okay, I don't understand... you say that the 6990m is on par with the Xfire I have, but then you say the 6990 would be phenomenal... is the 6990m different from the 6990? I'm lost, lol...

Damn! When I was building this on Dell's website, I remember the i7940XM was a $1700 option and that was like 6 months or so ago; right before the 18x R3 came out.

That Dell XPS is cool

If you don't game then it is a waste, I was lucky and got my 6970's when they were much cheaper, doubt I would do that now.

a single 6990m overclocked will be equivalent in performance to CF 5870's. i think that's what he meant.

ANd there is only 6990m for laptops...6990 is for the desktop and is a monster card

ya dude...but like your 1900x1200 screen and your R2 chassis...the 940XM is a selling point: Its an overclockable CPU...unlike most sandy bridges that you are seeing for sale in the m18x's on ebay (i.e., 2720qm, 2820qm). This is also a selling point and it has value

if you want to impress, overclock the crap out of it and post some benches. That's another way to raise your price (and its a free option)

Man, i should be your marketing manager lol

An M17x-R2 with the RGB LED, 920 or 940XM CPU, and a pair of 6970 or 6990s is the sweet spot right now, in my opinion. Sell the OEM 940XM, buy an ES 920XM. Sell the 5870s. Sell the other laptop. Just keep the R2.

Yeah the M2010 is SICK! I go to Med school now and when I'm out and about doing homework at a restaurant or something, people will always bug the hell out of me about it, lol, then they ask where they can get it - I tell them the price, I paid $8,900 ( the base was $4500 ) and that ends that, lol...

What suck is it's so damn propitiatory! Everything in it was made just for it! I can't use any other Vid Card ( that over heats like a ) and some other i can't remember, lol... I wish Dell made a Version 2 of this and worked out all the bugs because if they had, it would be the ! It's the PERFECT gaming LT minus REAL gaming power!!! But to be honest, I haven't ran across a game it can't play; I think the card is an ATI Mobility RADEON X1800.

lol... No doubt! I'll give you 10% sound fair :D

I need to let my buddy read all this, lol... I don't know all the mods that can be done... I just buy the damn thing and enjoy it ;)

Like I said above, I let my Dell Tech buddy know about our conversation since it will make more sense to him, lol... And NO, I will not sell my M2010, that's my baby!!! :p

Couldn't agree more. Can't bare to part with the gorgeous RGB screen. I wouldn't trade my laptop for any other laptop. 18x be damned without RGB :p

I do have the RGB LCD :D

Oh and you'll like this Bro... I almost traded the Alien for a 05 Raven R6, but I had finials (I go to Med School) and the guy sold it on me... I also almost traded for a 03 Busa, but found out that the guy spun a bearing while racing so I told the asshat to off; got lucky on that one.

Haha, I have an 04 R6. I love that thing. But the cops don't like watching me ride wheelies apparently. :D It'll take me some time to get back to that balance point.

I havn't had a chance to ride in almost two years  Spent to much time moving and away from home and havn't gotten it from my parents garage. It's sitting on a nice set of stands.

You should have traded since you never use the computer :p You can still put an add in or check out some bike forums. That would definately be a nice trade.

I'm reading a few things that I quickly found on Google... Why do you suggest that I switch out the 940XM for the ES920XM? If I'm understanding correctly, the ES940XM is a downgrade.

    Also I can't find a price on the 6990.

Yeah I kick myself in the azz that I didn't go the week before, but I had misdated my finials in my head and screwed myself. It was a SICK bike! I've always loved the ravens, but since I'm a powerlifter, my azz is WAY too big for that little bike, lol, so I was just going to flip it. But it's all good, My 2000 Trans Am vert puts out 700+ so that gets me a go'n :D

Well ... if all I can get is $1600 for the Alien, I guess I'll just keep it! Hell... $1600 won't even cover the cost of my custom pistons I need to get for my engine... This blows!

The 920XM and the 940XM are the same chip. Use a program called ThrottleStop, and the 920XM will run at the 25x multiplier, effectively making it a 940XM. The reason I say to sell is because and OEM 940XM goes for nearly $1,200, and an ES/QS 920XM goes for $255. So you'd put around $1K in your pocket and have the same horsepower. You can get a 6990M from Mythlogic for ~$550 plus shipping. 6970M on ebay is around $440 shipped. Double those prices for CrossFire. Swapping your processor would nearly cover that.

Truer words have never been.... Truer words Bro!

Ahhh I understand your method to your madness now :D

I wish I knew these things like you guys do because I love modding the 5h1t out of 5h1t , lol, I just don't know this scenes tech, talk and parts. Give me a Trans Am, Camaro, or Mustang, and I'll get you into the deep 9's, but sadly I lost my way with the tech. This give way to reason for finally opening the damn box after it's been sitting for months collecting dust, lol...

I am also a gear head (I do it with the 4G63 though). Thank God that internal combustion motors don't follow the same rules that technology does. I don't know how you kept that box closed for that long. You've got way more self control than I ever will. ;)

Another thing you may consider is parting it out piece by piece. You could make some good money that way. More than $1600.

Before I went back to the Trans Am, I had a 3000GT VR4 with about $30K under the hood. I got sick of the damn thing spinning bearings! Until someone fixes the oiling issue with them, I'll never go back to one! I was about to do a 6g74 swap with a 100 trim sticking out of the hood, but I said screw it and now building a 455 stroker for my T/A Vert :D

lol... like I've said, my M2010 is my baby! I got the Alien on a whim since I've always wanted one, but now that I'm in Med School, I really don't need it.

Damn.... I'd hate to cannibalize that beauty, but if I can make more cheeeeze!!!

I have a guy on here, from Egypt I think, wanting to buy it already, lol... I need to PM him back to see what he has in mind. I'll update with what's going on.

I just wanted to add (although it is completely unrelated to your motorcycle discussion), I used to work in water ski show riding stand-up jetskis freestyle (see my profile pic, no hands :) , tons of fun, just like riding a motorcycle, only the girls wear bikinis and you don't have to worry about hitting concrete if you mess up (although a jetski can hospitalize you I have learned from experience)). Now I am married and never touch the stuff, haha.

If you sell your R2 international, be sure to make sure paypal offers you "seller protection", without it, you can easily get ripped off. I would only sell internationally to an established member with a confirmed paypal address. Google international paypal payments before doing anything.
