I want to put in a killer wifi card into my m17xr3 and a dell 256 ssd . Is the killer wifi plug and play or are there Antennas etc that are part of the upgrade? I'm removing the 750gb 7200 rpm drive is this swap plug and play putting in a 256 ssd??

And yes after about 10 alienwares I was ALMOST Minutes from going back to a MacBook pro but I'm back to an r3 for now =)

I haven't done either upgrade, but from taking my r3 apart numerous times I have seen that all three antennas are there for the faster wireless cards(mine only uses 2). The SSD will work, you just have to reinstall windows on the SSD. I'd leave the 750gb in the secondary slot for data storage though not take it out. hope this helps you out a bit. :)

Actually a good idea is to keep your current HDD where it is and install the additional SSD in the spare slot as that slot is the most reliable in terms of achieving the best speeds. Good luck.

Thanks guys. I would consider putting both in but I'm swapping so I can sell one and keep the r3 with the ssd and killer wifi.

I've had quite a few. The best way to know which one is right for you is.. Try them all no ? :) I think I forgot to list a few too lol.

If I had to build an ultimate Alienware combining parts man would it be super sexy !

Is the killer wifi a direct plug in? I have a few spare 6200 and 6205 cards but I never removed them.. Look simple plug in with 2 screws?

fist of all, WHY do you want the card? because imo it's not worth it. actually in some situations it even performs worse then the intel option. It's just marketing.
About "upgrading" (wouldn't call it an upgrade) it's as easy as ram. all you need is to remove 2 screws to replace the card. you have to disconnect and reconnect the u.fl antennas. It's REALLY easy. After the hardware installation you need to install the drivers and you are done. This is, if it works, because some of those cards have defects.
About the SSD I really don't known what SSD dell uses but I bet it's something average and overpriced. You better buy it elsewhere. But seeing you are coming from a mac makes me understand your post.
Replacing the SSD is just swap plug and play. Unless you would use a 1.8" one. you would need an adapter in that case. It's very easy and it will be worth it. just make sure you get a reliable SSD.

that's an extremely biased review. I don't trust in it. having myself tested a card I can say it doesn't perform as it was stated on that review. It's pure marketing. that review is widely criticised all over internet.

The 256 SSD that Dell use's has been reviewed as one of the best. It out performs my OCz solid 3 6Gbps drive. I have since put the OS on it in my m18x so because Dell sells it dose not mean it is not very good.
