I am looking for a decent graphics card that is compatible with M17X R3 I am willing to go through the hassel to take my 460M GTX out and install a cheaper gpu just to play Counter-strike 1.6 for time being and when I move on to other games I will switch it back.

    or

I need to know if it is still possible to run SLI crossfire or whatever its called and have a 2nd GPU installed and possibly get the options to switch GPU back and fourth? for example 1xnvidia 460m while running 6970m ATI? or not possible sorry I don't deal with this stuff much.

The R3 can only hold 1 card.

Latest cards are Nvidia 580m and AMD 6990m.

Optimus is a Nvidia thing, the 6990m does not have that but you switch manually. See if you can find a 6970m on nbr marketplace or ebay.

correct me if i´m wrong but...you can manually select the videocard you want your application to run with via nvidias displaydriver-options.

yes that is true, but counter-strike is the only game that optimus does not let you select it for some reason :( I even tried going to the folder right clicking it, and selecting nvidia, it lets me select it, but than it will open the game in software mode or window mode.

This is a problem for all Optimus notebooks. The original Half-Life and all the games based on it (Opposing Force, Blue Shift, CS 1.6) will only run on the Intel IGP. Not even whitelisting or right-clicking the executable will get these games to work on the NVIDIA GPU. This is a big part of the reason why I got rid of my Optimus-enabled system.
