So what I feared was going to happen has actually happened....Alienware is replacing my system for the second time, which I didn't think would be a huge issue because I was going to end up with a new 17 this time instead of an R4. My main concern through this whole thing was the fact that I have a 7970m which of course is not offered anymore in the new systems, nor any other AMD card for that matter. Now I am not an AMD fan boy and I don't care either way which brand I get but I won't settle for a downgrade in performance. The tech that originally set up the exchange told me that I had nothing to worry about, I would be compensated with an equal card, which I deem to be the 780 at this point because I feel that a 770 would be a downgrade. Sure enough I get a call back today from the original tech agent that set it up and he provided me with the new order number and I look up the machine....and it has a 770m....
At this point I am pretty pissed,I could care less about any of the other upgrades at this point, I really could because it is my understanding that the 770 is NOT on the same level. While I am sure that this is a decent card it is not on par with one of the two top end cards that came in my R4.
Has anyone else dealt with this and had it resolved? because if this thing ships I will just reject it and sent it back , i won't take a machine that is inferior to the one I have in the gaming department when that is what I ordered it for.

They put price before performance in this situation. The 7970M is on par with the 680M, but the 680M was $350 more than the 7970M, which is how much more the 780M is to the 770M. Therefore, you get the 770M. If you had the 680M before, they would have offered a 780M.
You may be able to argue that it is a downgrade, but it seems you already accepted the replacement, and they may just play that card: "No can do. Take it or leave it."
Maybe you can sell the replacement and get another AW 17 with a 780M. Have you considered that? I couldn't stand having less performance. -
EDIT: after reading another thread with roughly the same problems I have sent a message to L_Porras with the hopes something can be done. -

Ok so crisis averted
I would like to thank L_Porras and the Alienware team for coming through for me again. We had some rough spots but as soon as I explained the situation to them a new machine was ordered with the specs that I had expected. Hopefully this new machine lasts me many trouble free years.
New machine will be
Alienware 17
4th Gen Intel Core i7-4800MQ processor
16GB Dual Channel DDR3L at 1600MHz
17.3 WLED FHD 1920 x 1080
1.5TB RAID 0 (2x750GB 7200RPM) + 80GB
BD ROM DVDRW
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M with 4GB GDDR5
5G WiFi Broadcom 4352 802.11n/ac
All in all I am more then happy with this setup, there are some upgrades over my previous model but nothing that I wouldn't expect from jumping to the new tech, the GPU was my major concern and it has been dealt with
Happy gaming everyone. -

Apparently they have cancelled my order...with no reason as to why, even after someone phoned me an hour prior and told me everything was on track....really losing my patience.
