Hi guys, just received and installed my new 680m into my m17x R2 system. It works perfectly as intended although I would have to manually control my gpu fans (due to 940xm) and I need to use drivers with modded inf. Still, I am very very satisfied with my current setup :D :D :D

Now would like to ask if anyone has a newer version of driver with modded inf? Im currently using 302.92.

Okay apparently I've did a little read through and found out that I can mod my driver's inf myself. However I'm not too sure how that works. Can anyone teach me how do I do so?

I found this thread on guru3d. Its old but worth a try.

Also this video on youtube should help as well.

I see you're controlling your fans manually. Is the fan speed loud before you get into Windows and Hwinfo kicks in?

edit: Also check here, its a more recent post. Scroll down until you get to the post by "Hockey"'.

Actually i've manage to mod the inf files myself with that exact video :p

No, the fan speeds are rather quiet before I get into windows and surprisingly enough even when I'm gaming the fans are still quiet ( Borderlands 2 maxed setting @72 degree highest temp)

    Haha! Good stuff :)

Congrats on the card man. That's some awesome temps. Hopefully someone will figure how to SLi these cards so the other slot isn't left empty. Since the PSU issue is fixed and we can use the 330w now by just swapping the ID chip, that's not holding us R2 owners back anymore.

You can always use the ones on laptopvideo2go.com for that.

Awesome post, that video helped me a lot! Few notes:

    1) laptopvideo2go.com doesn't seem to have the latest drivers for Win 7 64bit available as of right now. And the modified inf file for their last one available doesn't seem to have 680M in it anyways.

    2) The video shows nv_disp.inf as the file to open, it seems to have changed to nvctn.inf as of right now. Otherwise, everything else seems to be the same.

    3) Not sure if this will help others, but what I did is download the Eurocom drivers (you can find their link on eBay), and then copied the inf file to the latest nVidia driver release for the 680M. Eurocom also has the inf as a different name: nvcv.inf

Thanks again! Can't wait to try this out.

The PSU issue is far from fixed, more info in the 330watt thread. I wished people stopped telling other people that it's currently easily possible to use a 330watt PSU or 2x240watt PSU mod to power an extreme Xfire or SLI setup with recent cards and an XM cpu. This is currently not yet possible, everyone will hit the wall until someone finds out what exactly is going on and can prove the PSU's not 'just' work but also deliver the needed power (which they currently don't).
