I've been dealing with a thousand issues with my laptop.

The only thing that I actually had fixed was a tech replaced my keyboard when the AlienFX died.

Otherwise, now, I'm dealing with DPC latency issues, freezing up, not starting back up from hibernation/sleep, and finally not thinking that it's plugged in.

My DPC latency has mostly been fixed by latest Nvidia drivers, freezing is somewhat rare, and booting seems to be mostly working.

Starting a few weeks ago, in Windows, I constantly got the "Plugged in not charging" error. About a week ago, it started saying that it wasn't plugged in at all, but the power wasn't draining at all. Now, when I boot it says I'm using an adapter that's rated for under 240W. I remember a thread from a while ago from a similar issue and that the brand mattered. I have a Delta charger if that helps at all.

    Thanks for the help.

Are you using latest bios A07 for R1? If not, update to that version (download from dell support site) as previous versions starting from A04 or A05 - don't remember exactly), gave this error 'at random'.

Yeah, I called tech support. They told me to do the power drain and that worked for about a day. Now it's not working anymore. I am running A07.

    Hmm...

Fwiw, I occasionally got the error too (older bios). In my case, when I got the power adapter warning at boot, It solved itself by unplugging the power cord from the computer and putting it back in after a few seconds.

I checked the 'old' threads here (look for 'Flextronics' or 'Delta'), but I think it comes down to the same procedure as dell support gave you (included removal of the battery whilst plugged).

Since you experience issue already at boot time, I don't think playing around with the Fn-F2 button whilst logged in will help.

I have tried all of the above to no avail. Could something be wrong with the charger itself? It's only a year old.

Faulty charger is a possibility. I read in older threads that the center pin allows for 'communication' between the power supply and the laptop. The only way to find out is to use another charger, I fear. If all else fails, hope you have still warranty. Meybe try to convince them to send you a replacement (I assume you have a 100% faulty situation?)

I'm not sure if it'd be charger or laptop. I don't have a second one to test with. It charges or at least doesn't drain when it's plugged in. I guess I should call then...

Maybe dumb question... did you try re-seating the battery? I got that issue with my R2 a few times and re-seating the battery fixed it.

The freeze issue is because the Nvidia Verde drivers. What you have to do is install the Dell's beta 197.84 or disable PCIe gen2 in system BIOS.

Bet you have a bad charger or one with a bad plug! Or (I hope not) a bad power receptical on the mobo. i know it hurts to buy a new charger to find out if the old one is effed up but I think that's how this is going. :(

I have a work-around for the no power cord issue. If it beeps, I can hit F2 to go into the BIOS and then save and restart and then it'll boot.

I'm still having the resuming out of hibernation issue.
