I ask with out OC because I know that w OC your systems are nuts. Can some of you post results using the frame rates from games like Need for Speed shift and Resident Evil 5 benchmarks. Thanks!!! Ill post my scores tonight when I get home from work.

Hey theres chiefs. I have the RE5 benchmark here. I'll run some tests for ya.

I'll post the pics up. I'm sure your system with the 9800m GT SLi is still pretty darn good and no slouch. oles.

I'll post up more pics and results later on as well.

    Cheers. :)

Thanks! Using the old 3dvantage06 she got a 13850 as delivered. But that was almost 2 years ago. Im so tempted to buy a new m17x with 285 SLI but one Im a crazy gun collector and just purchased a M1918 BAR, two Im scared the second I purchase the 4xx SLI will come out and three Im nostalgic and I love the old M17x and the fact its the last of the Area 51s!!!

Ehehehehe yeps trues trues. Yeh I can see what you mean. :D

Out of the box stock when I got my R2 3 weeks ago I ran 3d mark 06 and scored 15001.

I'll be running some RE5 on the R2 soons. Both DX 9 and 10 both maxed out settings.
Maybe we can compare numbers eheheheh. I'm sure you shouldn't be to far back. Who knows you might even be in front.
I know my R1 beats my R2 in FIFA 11 and PES 11. Quite comfortably too. Thats due to AMDs drivers though.

I used to own the M1730 as well with 8800m GTX SLi. They were a force to be reckoned with back then oles.

    Cheers. :)

Sweet, I can run RE5 maxed out on native res on DX10 same for Need for speed shift, I dont detect slow downs so Itll be interesting what the results say. I can play crysis warhead on 1280x780 on all Gamer settings with no AA w/out stutter so I think the machine is up to the task of running modern games. I'm interested to see how bad I get smoked by new R1's and R2s.

Eheheh Nice nice cheifs. Yeh your system should still be able to run most of the modern games pretty well.

I'm not to sure if you will get smoked lol but it will be interesting to compare numbers ehehehe.

Any other benchmarks you want us to try just let us know and we can compare results numbers.
I also have Lost planet 2 benchmark that I will try later. So many things to bench eheheheeh.
Put up some of your bench pics as well and we'll compare oles.

    Cheers. :)

    Ah yup cool cool.
I don't recall those games having built in game benchmarks.

I just finished the 4 RE5 bench runs. Will post up the pics soon, I just have to resize them to fit here.

I ran the Variable and fixed bench in RE5 DX9 and same again in DX10 mode.
Now we can directly compare. I also noticed that most of these games favour Nvidia GPUs so thats nice for you eheheheh :D

If you have the 4 same bench runs handy post them up as well.

    Cheers. :)

I would not worry about the 4xx coming out so soon. I would guess that the next GPU to go into the M17X will be the ATI 6xxx series...

The rumored 485M SLI probably won't make it until H1 2011.

Hey All Op When My Secondary card was fried and was waiting for the replacement I remember that my FPS on ultra/high settings where around 30-40 FPS, but that was with my card overclocked to 675/1140. Haven't been playing to much, but when I get time I will check for you what I get now + I am using the 10.9 drivers now compared to 10.7 then sooo... Also I overclocked my 720 to 1.85/3.25 ghz now so gonna redo all that when I get a chance.

The settings I used was everything set to its highest setting in game/benchmark.

It would be cool to see if the game benefits from your 940XM and by how much.

Ill try again tonight, but it looks like the young whipper snappers got me beat :). PS how do you copy an Image of your screen so I can post results?

    Hey theres cheifs.

For screenshots I usually use the printscreen button on the keyboard, however it doesn't seem to work for me anymore these days. So others have suggested to use ctrl printscreen and ctrl alt printscreen. Then don't seem to work either in certain full screen games or programs.

So in the end I just use FRAPS. I have it running and hit F10 to take a shot of the benchmark results once their complete. Then you simply go to the folder where it is stored and edit the file size cause FRAPS saves it as a HUGE file LOL. Way to big to be able to post up here thats for sure.

    Cheers. :)

HAhahaha I forgot about those short cuts. Last night when I ran the one bench mark I ran it in native res (1920 - 1200) all setting maxed, no AA and I was recording 49 FPS about 20 less than you :( Ill play more tonight. It sure looked smooth and fast however.

Ah yup cool cool chiefs. Thats all good. For most games if it looks and plays smooth then yeh thats def good enough. No worries about the benches and their random numbers lol. Just a rough guide really. In game performance if your getting reasonable frames and its smooth playable then yeh thats the main thing. 49FPS sounds good and smooth enough for every set on MAXed settings apart from AA. If you start dropping below 30 or even in the 20s then you might want to lower a few settings but you should be fine.

    Cheers. :)

Just did a run with Resident Evil 5 and got 67 fps average. And this is with my gpu oc to 880/ 1100/ 1.12v. Get 16000+ gpu in vantage. And did a run same settings with dells old drivers a month ago and got 77fps average.. And that was with no oc then. So with dells old drivers i had +60fps in Grid(sitting in the car). And this game that never got below 60fps. But with 10.8 grid hardly stays at 55fps ( exept outside the car 50-90fps). But with dells old ones Dirt 2 had problem to stay at 60fps in dx10 and with 10.8 its smooth as butter game play in dx 11 maxed out. So it depends witch you use. So wy cant we have the magical driver that works for every game :D

I ran NFS on 1200x780 because I played it on my LCD 46" TV. All settings maxed and damn it looked sweet. At the time I was using the 18X.xx series of drivers. I never tried it at native, so I guess that isnt max, didnt mean to be misleading. The 9800m gt's are beasts if you get a good set of drivers and cards that do not melt!!!

Nice but thats why I want to stay with Nvidia, their (Nvidia) driver updates usualy inlude profiles for the newest games and SLI support if the game was desighned with it. AMD=bullet proof cards but the driver issue worries me at times.

I was on 1920x1200 and without AA everything else maxed out, I could get about 20-40 FPS with 5870 Xfire, I could get a little better result in old driver but I'm using the new one for other game! Even with that new I couldn't race 'cause the noises on screen, wait the guy review about 285SLI and maybe switch to green soon!

PS: I've found out how to play that game with xfire 5870, you just change your shift.exe name to anything else and it's better with GRID.exe, no noise anymore in game race but main screen still is, hope it help with anyone love that game!

USMC - gun collector huh? Never would have guessed :p I used to have the Area51 m17X and I miss it. Well I love the new R2 but just something about the old Ripley case and those blazing hot Nvidia cards.
I did some benching with the Area51 before I returned it and the new R2 when it came for comparison. I had a very similar score in 3Dmark06 with 13890 but on the R2 'out of the box' I got 19100. The difference in Crysis was very noticable but it took a good amount of time to get the driver issues settled on the AMD cards. At this point I would say the vbios/driver update combo is stable and reliable.
If you are still satisfied with the Area51 and it does all you need it to.... just wait. If it's ailing then that's another story.
Ultimately it's up to you but I'm not upgrading the R2 until it can't run what I need it to, even if it gets to be legacy in the next 9 months. :) That's just me, I'll take the hit to performance in newer apps until the laptop is no longer productive then it's time.
**EDIT** Measure framerate with the benchmark app provided (ie crysis has one too) or with Fraps.

XFX 5870M murdered the GTX 260M SLI :D

I just love bad company 2 and get 30-100 fps max settings mostly above 60. But i checked with a friend of mine. He got a 2gb 5870 in his computor and also he says that AA doesnt work proparly in bfbc2 and some other games. Does anybody noticied this with their atis.. And nvidia owners, do you have this problem with AA in some your games?? Ive noticed this in bad company 2, maffia2, aliens vs predator and ghost recon 2. Ghost recon 2 i get very low fps. About 40-60 but AA worked with dells old driver so i hope the AA problem will be sorted out with 10.10 driver

Well I had time last night to run two bench marks both in RE5, I think I messed up a setting. On Monday when I started this post I ran the RE5 Bench: Fixed, Native res (1900/1200) all settings on high and I was getting a "B" with an avg of 40 fps. Last night same game settings got me a 20!!!!! I went down to 1280/720 and scored a B with 44 FPS. So I need to figurer out/remember what the heck I did. In control pannel SLI engaged, Physics on ECU, no V sync. Ill play some more this weekend. Duty tonight, hump tomorow morning. I never use AA, but I only have 2x512 not 2xgig monsters :)

PS Game plays great in native no slow downs, no matter how many zombies are around. Ill get the FPS back up. :)
