    Hi All,

Been lurking for a while. I am having a tough time trying to decide what AW I want.

I really want a 18 but it is just too expensive. I have got it down to 2 choices. An R2 refurb with the 5280 crossfire and RGB screen at $2100 with 4 year advances service or the R3 with 3D at $2300 with 4 year advanced service.

BTW my son has the R2 with the RGB and I am just blown away by the system.

Any thoughts on being somewhat future proof on either system. BTW I am not a huge gamer but I just love the looks of the AW.

i was like you, but played around several laptops at local stores figured that what i wanted in laptop was:

tuff exterior, best screen, better video card(s).
i didn't necessarily care for current intel chip vs last gen.
i game some, but i loved the 1200p screen and was not too concerned about futureproof.
plus during time i ordered, outlet had a 20% coupon

r3 is a very good laptop, but it only had 1080p, rubber finish as opposed to metal exterior, and was more, etc.

so i went for r2 rather than r3 despite its own advantages such as better battery life.

but if future proof is #1 concern, i'd go w/ r3.
    if u dont' care for 1200p screen, go w/ r3's 1080p.
    don't care for 2 video cards, go w/ r3.

just recently received the m18x and the m18x's 1080p screen is actually pretty good, not rgb good, but still good. so r3's 1080p, you should be satisfied with.

btw, 4 year warranty is great investment.

I don't get this futureproofing thing the R2 will still be good for 2-3 more years. It is built better as well and the RGBLED is stunning.

Sounds like me over the last several months.. Ive had 4 R3s now and I just got my 3rd R2 last night. So right now Im deciding between the two that i have.. a 2820 3d R3 and a 920xm RGB r2/256ssd/bluray/5870xfire. I plan to put up a post reviewing both options with lots of pics and videos tonight or tomorrow.

I promise you it will be tonight or the next day or two that i finish it. Ill compare both in a positive way because i like both and have lots of pics and short videos pointing out the pros and comparisons of each etc. only thing in my way is wiping and doing a clean install on the new r2. ive never done it on a laptop and it seems intimidating but im giving it a shot tonight. :(
