In an attempt to test out another rgb led screen I took my R2 apart and put everything back together except the lcd assembly, including the camera, alienhead logo on back lid, alienware logo which are connected through one cable I believe. I also did not attach antennas for wireless. So for now it has a bare lcd connected with the lcd cable and the above not plugged in. So what would cause this to not power on?

Is it not powering on with the new screen or old one? Try a power drain.

Ok thanks, I did the power drain made some progress but after the power drain I put the battery back in then plug in the ac and now the power button glows orange/red or whatever it normally does then I press the power button and reverts to previous no power state.

that's a peculiar thing to have happen. at that point its time to retrace your steps and see were something might be shorting out. has it done this more than once? meaning the lights come on then when you attempt a power up, it shorts out? try re-seating the power strip.

When after the power drain and plugging in both the battery and ac the power button is lit up indicating the ac is plugged in then when I press the power button I guess it is shorting out. I will have to put it back together normally I guess, I wanted to see what the lcd I have hooked up looked like. I'll have to do it tomorrow I am heading to bed. Thanks for the help though.

Try a power drain if that doesn't work make sure the strip connected to the motherboard to the command cover is properly connected.

    @ Malignant,
Disconnect the BIOS battery for 30sec. It's a small white connector near the CPU fan (note the fan has a white connector as well).

@ Mikoyan, - yes, but first unplug the power cord.

i had a similar problem: when a tech came round to dissassemble my system it wouldn't power on again until all of the alienfx light zones were connected back up. Dont know if that could be the same issue here...

Thanks, I tried unplugging bios lastnight too along with power drain. I suspect I need all the alienfx lights hooked up too. I will have to somehow get the other lcd out of the e2e enclosure.

Yeah I read that thread last night. I pm'd him about it but no reply yet. I wonder what the best method is to cut that part of the panel?
