I noticed the optical drive makes noise, the ejecty type noise on boot up.
I don't recall hearing this before.
I had my screen changed and speakers changed yesterday and I 'think' I noticed it thereafter.

Anyone had this before or suggest how I can get rid of it?

I've checked boot order and CD/DVD is third choice.
The only other thing I've done is installed Steam/Rage.

I've just a got a R3, and it does this. Very noisy at boot up. Not sure why though. Thought it was some quirky BluRay thing. What disc player do you have?

Mine does the same. I think it's just the hard drive head moving when you boot, not sure.

    Wow !
What happened to the website the last 24 hours?
Only just managed to log in.

    Anyhow,

Having read around I think the optical drive noise at boot up must have been there before. I probably didn't notice it.
    Must be going nuts.

Its just that while the laptop is so new I don't want to miss any initial problems. Doesn't help that I am tinkering with the blasted thing all over the house.

    Alls good now though.
    Ha! Ha!

The optical drive noise is completely normal :) If you put a disc in there and shut the laptop off and turn it on again, it won't make any noise. In other words, when there is a disc in the drive, it won't make noise. No need to worry :)

I don't think this is completely normal as my OD on my old system doesn't do this. I've noticed that it doesn't make this archaic sound if you do a system restart, just happens when you do a cold boot.
