lately ive noticed my 4th core is not detected.. and maybe, not being used!

this is a real issue, and cant seem to find "why"??

all ive read is about 'CPU socket seating issue' and something about cores dying due to heat.. and something about "hidden core".

r3 was meant for gaming and all ive being playing is call of duty black ops, and its not "max graphics" due to some lag in multiplayer. so i really doubt its heat-issues.. so i really doubt this is the reason.

here is a screenie of the cpu-z of my pc, and its even worse.. it says "2 cores".

what can i do? please help.

You stated "lately" i've noticed my 4th core is not detected. This is strange indeed if your CPU-Z version detected all 4 cores previously, but not currently.

For a quick elimination of false detection via CPU-Z, update to version 1.57.
This version detects my i7 2720QM's cores properly.

In W7 Open Task Manager > performance Tab. Should be showing 8 total cores, 4 physical and 4 virtual all in a row. If not, then your chip or motherboard is defective.

As for COD BO multiplayer performance with the R3.
This game is known to have lag/studders in Multi out of the box with stock configs.

After some trial and error In-game setting changes I found "Shadows enabled" caused the lags and studdering.
Runs butter smooth with it disabled on my R3 now.

Badly coded shader and networking for the PC version of the game unfortunately.

Hows your R3's perfomance in other games curiously?

I have never seen this before myself. Run Prime95 in the background and launch it again

Why even bother with CPU-Z? Simply opening Task Manager's performance tab would've shown all 8 threads were functioning.

aaah soo it is the shadow that makes the studder and stuff... ill try disabling. well it run smooths at full fps with alice madness return, crysis 2, the witcher 2, portal 2, etc..

because i saw it first in cpu-z and then in task manager. i realized what it was. i had a bad driver installed, how? i dont know. but i reinstalled the couger chipset driver again:

weird fact: using the default driver from dell, it gives me 8 cores (4 physical and 4 "virtual" maybe) and then i tried the mx18's driver update (stated in this forum that its compatible to use) and it shows only 4 cores.

    any opinions?
