I ran these tests for the first time today, curious to see how this compared to others with the 460m.
Well, im not impressed, i expected better. I actually compared these scores to my aging desktop Q9400 with 9800GTX, and to be honest the gap isnt big. However the CPU does show a decent improvement, but the GPU....well errr...!
See for yourself, this is all stock at default 3dMark and Vantage settings. Is something amiss?
R3 3DMark:
-SMS2: 5807
-SMS3: 5681
-CPU: 5676
-Score: 14335
Dekstop Q9400 3DMark:
-SMS2: 4755
-SMS3: 5449
-CPU: 3800
-Score: 12131
R3 460m Vantage:
-GPU Score: 7039
-CPU Score: 39373
-3DMark Score: 8858
Desktop Q9400 Vantage:
-GPU Score: 6064
-CPU Score: 29231
-3DMark Score: 7562
When i ran 3DMark06 at 1920x1080, the GPU scores were almost even with the 9800GTX actually higher than the 460m?
-460M SMS2: 4784
-9800GTX SMS2: 4855
-460m SMS2: 4344
-9800GTX SMS3: 4694
Somewhat dissapointed, have i sacrificed too much for the beuty of the 3D....and yes i am definatly impressed by the 3D!

Anyone?
Either mine isnt working properly, or the card just isnt that great? -
I base this simply on Tom's Hardware video hierarchy chart. The desktop GTX 460 is only one or two tiers above the 9800GTX, which won't show considerable improvement. It was always my understanding that you only got the 460m because you were forced to get it with the 120hz. I'm going to try out this 3D thing and see if the loss in GPU is worth it

9800 does not support DX10 or DX11. Your 460 does.
The standard 3dmark11 score for 460 stock is 17xx-18xx.
Don't judge too much by the benchmarks. Just play games and optimize accordingly for a good experience.

Thanks,
In my naivety i though the 460m would be worlds ahead on the 98 series.
Your right, to get the 3D, the 460 is the only option, and the 3D is pretty cool.
Interesting tho ,if 17-18 is stock on the 460m, why am i getting 14? I now worried that my card is underpeforming for some reason? -
take a look at the benchmarking thread, it will help you alot. the stated "Standard" 3d06 scores above are false. your scores are right in line with the hardware of your machine. your card isnt under performing. the 460m is slightly less powerful than a 5870, putting your 14k scores right in the same category as the 5870 stock.
the other advice in that previous post is 100% accurate however. just play some games and tweak accordingly, your machine is fine. -

Also please understand I was talking about 3dmark11 not 3dmark06. 06 is an older benchmark and doesn't offer as much value as 3dmark11 or 3dmark vantage in reference to game play performance.

Just FYI, leaving Stereoscopic 3D on DOES affect performance even when not in 3D mode. Turn it off when benching.

OK, so my 14k scores are about the norm then.
I was hoping to see a leap forward from my 9800GTX, but it seems i will be left wanting on that one. Im aware that the 460m does offer the improved directx tho.
Ill manage with what it is, im sure it will be just fine.
Im pretty sure i did try the vantage test with the 3D turned off, ill try it again just to test.
LVNeptune, what are your scores with the 460m?
R3 3Dmark and Vantage scores - 460m
