I am having a problem with my 6970m/Intel setup.

It seems I cannot switch graphics. When I press FN+F7 it does have a dialog box however when I go to the "configure switchable graphics" page it still says "High Performance GPU". Also on that page it will not allow me to change to the Intel.

Also in a side question that maybe unrelated... when I look up the 2820QM vs the 2720 it actually says "Intel 3000 graphics" for the 2720.. on the 2820 CPU in the specs it only says "Intel Graphics" is that just a typo?

Also something else that I find problematic.. When I try to install the Intel IGP drivers it says "the driver being installed is not validated for this computer" Dont I have Intel HD graphics????

    ^^

Anyways this is rather anoying, I have never seen the "Configure Switchable Graphics" menu say "Power saving GPU" for currently active.

    Thx in advance!

Well nevermind I fixed it my self. I will explain here as I am sure someone will run in to this problem one day.

Aparently the Dell Intel HD 3000 Driver was never installed.

If the ATI drivers are installed before the Intel Drivers Windows will install generic video drivers for the Intel. Then when you try to install the Dell drivers since the ATI drivers are already there it errors and says "the driver being installed is not validated for this computer".

This is resolved by uninstalling the ATI drivers, then installing the Intel HD drivers, and finally reinstalling the ATI again.

    Problem solved :p

If you use Dell's stock ATI driver for the 6970, it should install drivers for both the dedicated and the discrete card. I never had an issue switching.

This is correct...install the stock drivers for the m17x or m18x (slightly newer) and dont install the intell ones.
