So I do some design work on my R3 and I noticed a color combo that's causing insane flickering on my screen and I'm wondering if other users can see it as well. See attached image and let me know if it flickers for you as well.

UPDATE: It looks like its not the screen but the Radeon graphics; if I use the IGP its crystal clear. I had a similar issue on an HP TM2 with switchable graphics. At first it was color banding then HP issued a dithering patch which dealt with the color banding but introduced noticeable flickering on greys and blacks. If I'm doing design I'll for sure be using the IGP :(

    *bump*

Please view the image on your R3's screen. I want to know if its just a defect with mine or if anyone else has this issue.

Zoom the image if you have trouble seeing the flickering. I swear that's a non-moving picture but it completely flickers on mine.

    bump again.

Here's a larger version. JPEG this time definitely not animated, but appears to be moving. Looks like the R3's screen has terrible grey to grey response time.

Cool I'm one step closer to calling a widespread shortcoming on all R3s. Any more input from others?

    I don't have it on my R3 with R6970M.

Both IGP and the radeon have clear strong blacks.

Ty for the input. I've seen it across both my replacements and a couple HP machines. I'll bother Dell about it since its not normal.

I have the same issue. I noticed it right away on Windows Task Bar as it came with black theme and certain gray scales had the noise. I also verified that it's the AMD card, because Intel HD does not have the issue.

I wonder if there's anything that can be done and if drivers would solve the issue.

I'm just worried I can't update drivers directly from AMD, so perhaps will end up with an unsupported card.

This is my 2nd R3 both had the issue. A tech is coming out to replace the GPU soon to see if it'll help.

Nah, mang. Once again it just looks like black grey black grey lines. And because it seems like my eyes are playing trix on me again, it looks like it's sorta breathing lolz.

I don't see the flickering/streaming lines down the screen like when we see tvs/computers on tv though.

The picture just reminds me of this: http://images.halloweencostumeideas.com/child-prisoner-costume.jpg

It happens on the M15x too. It has something to do with the LCD, unless it's major, it's something you have to live with. :X

I have the same problem issue. The most difficult thing is to convince dell support that I know what I am talking about and I know it's the 6870M the problem.

I had the video card replaced twice already. I knew the problem wouldn't go away and even showed the technician so he could see it, hoping that by seeing it the issue would be solved. The problem is that, that dell and the technician has a very weak relationship so the information that he could see won't go to dell so I have to go the support process all over again.

Now they are going to replace the video card again + motherboard. I know it won't solve the problem (because they are going to use the same video card model) and I'll have to through this all over again.

Oh and for the one thinking it's the LCD... it's NOT! Integrated graphics card makes the problem go away.

I guess I'll keep replacing the video card until they realize the problem is the video card and offer me a different replacement free of charge (if it its the nvidia card) or the 6970M with the same upgrade price I had when I ordered the alienware.

Unless any of you guys also had the problem with the 6970...

it also happens on mine, but ive got a 6990m so maybe it just happens to some amd cards or maybe there a setting we have to change? who knows.
