I hooked up my PS3 to my notebook and everything was fine. all the sound was working in the PS3 home screen. but when i went into the game the speakers started popping where there should be sound. its like this thoughout everything. I don't know whats going on with it. Can someone let me know if they have experianced this and if so if they have a fix for it. Thanks.
-
I've got a problem where the sound works when the game (or XMB) first starts up. But like half a minute later the sound is gone. If I FN+F8 back to Windows, and check my sound by clicking on the volume icon in my tray and raising the volume, it has a 1-second delay in between clicking/dragging up the bar-thingy. That "confirms" that I have sound though. And then if I Fn+F8 back to HDMI-In (PS3), the sound will work and then go out again after like 30seconds.
I wonder if it's my cheapy cable or my HDMI-In port.
Someone please advise. Thx on behalf of OP and myself

Most likely your cables. Any HDMI issues I have had are due to shoddy cables.
-
What's a good brand of cables that aren't overpriced? Cuz I paid like ~$5 for two 6-foot cables from meritline.
-
Amazon.com: Mediabridge Ultra Series - High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet - Category 2 Certified - Supports 3D & Audio Return Channel [Latest HDMI Version Available] - (6 Feet): Electronics
I love these MediaBridge cables, they are cheap and rated for 3D
-
Thanks. I'll try 'em
EDIT: Ordered. They'll be here on Saturday
Will letcha know how it goes
-
Does it possible to hear music from the OS when we are playing (HDMI-IN xbox)?
-
monoprice.com for cables. great quality and as cheap as it gets.
-
Went ahead and bought the cable that LV recommened for me. It's got a bazillion reviews.
-
what do you mean by popping, I got a jb PS3 and while playing a game, a harsh loud sound so i can't hear nothing.. I just go to parameter, sound , and change 5.1 out to 2.0 out. Now all fine^^
-
So the cable that LVNeptune recommended for me arrived. Tried it with ps3 on hdmi-in (normal bootup, not psjb). Sound is still messed up like before. I taped it on my camera, and the sound lasts for like 20seconds before going silent again. Video to it on youtube. The beginning of the video details the steps I must take to get the sound to return after it cuts off. And then once sound is "restored", I go back to HDMI-In mode, and the sound lasts for another 20seconds again... And also with the new cable, sound "pops". The sound was fine for the first few times, but then it became that loud "popping." Please see video: YouTube - m17x R3 HDMI-In - Sound Messed Up‏
Also, would like to add that I never get sound on the first bootup. I have to Fn+F8 out of the XMB back to my desktop to do that volume bar thing... darnit!! So frustrating!!
So do I just have a bad hdmi-in port? Should this thing be serviced?
Please advise. Thx -
Bumpin for advice. This is so frustrating...It's a good thing I have 3year+accidental though, so I can just have them service it during summer.
-
Does anyone else have the same issue as I do? (Sound lasting only for 20seconds before going silent)?
-
I have a similar issue with HDMI-Out.
"Better" cables did nothing to fix it, and the TV is in perfect condition (and is a Panasonic Viera)
Could be a 6970 driver issue -
The HDMI-In is associated with which of these? : moob, gpu, igp, internal soundcard, or neither?
I don't understand HDMI enough, so I'm unsure why a graphics driver would have anything to do with sound going out every 20seconds for HDMI- input? -
well...
if you open the custom option in Catalyst uninstall, you will notice an HDMI audio driver
Catalyst can be more than just video drivers. -
Where do you find that? I don't see it anywhere, and don't want to accidentally uninstall CCC in "programs and features" in the windows control panel. Or is it in the most recent version of CCC?
Importantly, waddya suggest for my issue of sounding going out? -
I can't suggest a fix for the sound issue. If I had one, I wouldn't still share a similar issue!
If you go into uninstall and select custom it'll let you select / view all aspects of CCC before actually uninstalling anything. As long as you select custom after initial dialogue, I promise it'll be ok! -
Are you currently running a non-dell issued AMD driver (AMD Reference Driver)?
If YES -
1. Uninstall AMD Reference Driver
2. Reboot to Safe Mode and run CCleaner Registry
3. Reboot
4. Install Dell AMD driver
See if that resolves your issue, if it does not, see if the issue happens with another device. Attach an external DVD or Bluray player if you have one. -
Nah, bud. All my drivers are stock-factory settings. I don't have any other devices with HDMI, so I'm gonna have to wait till this weekend to go to my cousin's house to test... Waddya think it could be though? Is this a hardware issue I'm facing, or is it a software thing? Cuz as I noted earlier, I can "reenable" the sound by doing that volume-bar thing I described. It only lasts for 20seconds though
-
Bump for suggestions or people's experiences with HDMI-In. Noone seems to talk about this very important selling-point of the R3 very much.

Do a clean install of this driver:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...dateid=-1&formatid=-1&source=-1&fileid=450408
Also make sure you have updated to the following:
1. Intel HM67 Cougar Point chipset v9.2.0.1019 (versus 17xR3 driver v9.2.0.1015)
Drivers and Downloads
2. USB 3.0 Driver v2.0.34.0 (versus 17xR3 driver v2.0.26.0)
Drivers and Downloads
3. Intel Management Engine Interface v7.0.4.1197 (versus 17xR3 driver v7.0.1.1141)
Drivers and Downloads
4. Intel Rapid Storage Technology v10.1.2.1004 (versus 17xR3 driver v10.0.0.1046)
Drivers and Downloads
5. Realtek Card Reader Driver v6.1.7600.77 (versus 17xR3 driver v6.1.7600.64)
Drivers and Downloads
Give that a try and see if it works. Try with a different device as well (Bluray player, another console, etc.). -
USB 3.0 drivers are listed twice. Otherwise nice list. One problem with the HM67 update from the 18x if a program disables desktop composition aero fails to re-enable itself afterwards. I had to roll back to fix it.
-
Hey bud, what does a "clean install" mean? Do I uninstall the old one (and how do I do it)? Or do I install it ontop of what I already have?
Also for the other ones, do I just install them ontop of what I already have? Does the order matter?
Thx pal for all your assistance

For the display driver (AMD), your call really. I'm not yet an expert on AMD drivers as I have mainly stuck with NV. This will change of course since I'll be dealing with the 6970M Crossfire now. lol
Go ahead and try a straight download and install of the AMD driver I linked to and see how that works out. If issues, uninstall the AMD driver, reboot into safe mode, run CCleaner Registry and 'fix/clean' any issues found, reboot to the desktop (no safe mode this time) and run the installer for the AMD driver I linked to. Be sure to:
(NOTE 1: I suggest disabling Windows Automatic Driver Install before updating drivers - reference this LINK)
(NOTE 2: I suggest disabling Windows Automatic Updates - reference this LINK. Once you have installed all of your drivers, re-enable Windows Update)
For the other drivers, just run the installer over the current. Reboot if prompted. -
Where do you go to uninstall the AMD drivers? Is it control panel, programs and features?

@BB,
Nothing, man. It's the same. Sound lasts for 24 seconds instead of 20seconds. I tested it by leaving my XMB at my blu-ray disc (SFIV) so the music would be playing. After 24 seconds the sound went away. I did Fn+F8 back to the desktop and did that volume bar clicking thing I told you about, and it pinged. Then Fn+F8'ed back to XMB, and this time, I just pressed random directions on the XMB menu so that I heard the clicking, and I was looking at my other computer's second hand at the same time. 24seconds and the sound went away again...
What to do??
(At least all my drivers are updated now lolz).
But yah, what to dooooooo??
EDIT: Now the sound pops/crackles constantly if I Fn+F8 back to desktop and ping, and then Fn+F8 back to the game again. Damn. Forgot to mention also mention that if I Fn+F8 back to the desktop but skip the volume bar pinging thing, and then Fn+F8 back to the game, sound doesn't come back... Maybe it's a sound driver thing ?? Or is there something (a software) HDMI-related?
EDIT2: If the sound "restores" but isn't sound and is only the massive popping/static-popping, it TOO will last for only 24seconds.
EDIT3: This whole problem is the same whether I'm on the IGP or the GPU. -
HDMI in isn't controlled by video drivers is it? I was under the impression that it was a hard-wire to the monitor itself.
-
I think it's connected to the computer's audio though, cuz sound comes back if sound works on the desktop. I've tried the pinging. But this time what I did was instead of pinging the volume bar, I left a youtube video loaded but paused. When sound went away on ps3 mode, I Fn+F8'ed to my desktop and then hit the play button on the youtube video. Let it play for 2 seconds, then paused and Fn+F8'ed back to HDMI-In. Same thing: 24seconds.
So, I think it's a sound (driver/glitch) thing, cuz my ps3's HDMI-output works fine if sound works period, right? 24seconds is so weird though...
Waddya think?
EDIT: Should I be installing this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...15-21-13-64-2342-update-released-05-25-a.html ? How about this one: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...dio-driver-v6330-update-released-05-25-a.html ? -
Woohooo! Finally solved my issue!
