I've been getting blue screens in an alarming frequency of late. Maybe once or twice every week, but now it's almost a daily occurring event. At first, it was with random programs such as using Aim to file transfer, and running certain games that automatically crash on startup(Heroes of Newerth is one), to happening randomly on running the internet browser, gpu-z, nvidia control panel, and almost everything.. If anyone can please help me try to fix this, any help will be appreciated.

    Currently using A03 bios driver(Reverted from A04)
    267.64 A01 gpu driver
Every other drivers currently at stock.

Can you install whocrashed, it might give more info if I'm not mistaking.

You are allready on sp1, did you install the gpu drivers after that or before teh sp1 update? Why did you revert do A03.

    BCCode 9f = DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
I would try a full power drain, as it will reset the bios and solve bios related problems. I would also update all drivers to the latest versions.

To do a full powerdrain follow these steps:
    1) remove battery and coin cell battery
    2) hold the power button for 10-15 secs
    3) put back the batteries

I'll try both right now. Be back in a few.

Edit: Whocrashed pointed to driver power state failure on every crash log, now doing power drain.

I hopefully drained it properly after watching a guide online. How would I check to see if it worked? Just wait it out?

(I also got the repeating 5 beeps on first power up, and half my notifications are missing D :)

You cant really check if it is drained, but if you removed the coin cell battery and the regular battery + held the power button for 10-15 secs, it is 100% drained :)

Brabostaan, I reverted to the A03 because the A04 it frequently caused blue screens for me just by turning on the computer and using it for more than 15 minutes. T_T

Any advice on if the bsod's keep happening due to Driver power state failure Simplified?

If it keeps happening, I would try to reinstall windows 7 from scratch and reinstall all drivers.

If that does not help I would guess it is hardware related. I would call Dell and ask them to replace/repair the machine.

I think I may have to ask them to repair it. I was writing a comment, but then I bsod'd again T_T

I was getting fairly frequent blues screens with the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE message.

Found some relief with nvidia control panel 3d settings , set power management to prefer max performance. I used the 266.08 drivers.

I haven't had a blue screen since format/reinstall. On this install I did not install COUGAR-POINT-CHIP drivers and I only installed the 267.64 drivers. Other install i had tried to install nvidia 275.xx drivers using the inf workaround. Other difference that may not be related - did not install alienware command center.

BIOS is A04 reset to default settings, but hard drive set to non raid.

I don't know if it matters, but for my new install I also set nvidia control panel 3d settings: multi-display/mixed gpu to single display performance. And preferred graphics processor Nvidia high performance. Power management is default 'Adaptive', so at least for this install that setting is on default is fine.

Windows power management and Intel graphics/power management all default.

Well, talked to alienware tech, removed and reinstalled the vid card driver, and updated to the evil A04 bios...

    Hopefully it works now T_T

I am 90% sure that the gpu is causing the blue screens. I think Dell needs to replace that gpu. It seems to be more of a hardware issue than a software issue, as the possibility of a software issue is very low after removing and reinstalling the drivers.

The dell guy said he had to research my error issue, and he'll get back to me tomorrow, so...i'll be asking him to send a replacement or a better gpu. But thanks though for the help.
