    Hi all

    I got a quick question

If i got an R3 with the 3d 560m with the 3d 1080p option, would i be able to change this to a ati 6970/6990m 2GB card?

    thanks.

Nope. End of. The ATi cards must pass their signal through the IGP in the R3. Unfortunately the IGP doesn't support the 3D screen. Not even setting it to 60Hz.

Thought that would be the case, worth a double check though.
    Thanks

Dont like nvidia and want ati instead (potential outlet purchase)

Can you get replacement screens instead of the 1600x900 to the 1920x1080 anywhere in the UK or USA? as theres a couple with ati cards online but have the 900p screen and thats just not good enough

you can change the screen to a 60hz 1080p screen...but if you don't do it yourself, the cost might be prohibitive. It'll cost you about $400 if a tech comes to replace it (not worth it imo)

the direct alienware replacement screens are about $190 on ebay
    17.3"LCD SCREEN for Alienware M17x R3 (NON-3D) WUXGA A+ | eBay

There are also much cheaper screens available... you should look.

This thread talks about swapping screens on the R3

I am using an inspiron 1525 (that i got given, i would never buy one) with a scar on the screen, poorly hinges that have no stability, no GPU, crappy amounts of ram and a Core 2 Duo, I think i could cry!

I bet its gone to a bloke for his 15 year old that wont use it properly too.

    Not impressed
