Hello i just received my alienware m17x r3 today it has a i7 2630QM and a nvidia 460m. I only have two issues with the laptop the 2630QM says it can turbo boost up to 2.9 GHz but when i ran a stress test it never got above 2.6 via cpuz?

second issue is that when ever i full screen anything on my desktop (besides games) on the very top of the screen it seems like it is not showing the top of the program im running like its cut off and all you can see it the wallpaper?

    any ideas any will do?

what kind of test are you running. 2.9 is only when running a single core.

can you provide a screen shot of your problem with the screen.

I believe that Turbo Boost rating is only for 1 core. It means if only one core is being used it can Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz. While all four are being used they can all Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz. I'm not sure about the screen issue though.

Yea I will be able to post a screen shot when I get back to the house and I used prime95 and is there any program to stress one core I know pointless but just want to check to make sure it can reach 2.9

try using throttle stop to help maintain max multi, when ever possible.

plus there are option in the bios for turbo boost duration. sandy bridge only provides turbo for a short amount of time.

does the screen thingy happen in other apps?

with all apps expect full screen games! and for the CPU it dont really bother me that much i just thought when it said 2.9 ghz it would mean it haha! but here is my question if the sandy bridge only holds turbo for a short amount of time how is it better then then 1gen i7s

clock for clock the sandy bridge is the better performer. plus the igp for battery life. your 2630 is as fast/er as a 940xm at stock levels.

not sure about the screen, have you tried a different driver?
