so i used the windows 7 disk to try and install my os.....i booted off it, no problem....i desided to keep the recovery partition and i installed to the data partition, jsut like how it shipped.....i got though almost the entire installation, windows setup reboots automaticly, and the setup continued.....right near the end a message came up stating "setup can not run on this hardware" nice job dell!.......

i have a r3, with the 460 (3d package). the only slightly non-standard config item is that i have the 1.5TB raid0 configured...but that shouldnt have caused this issue. if anything that would have cuased my disk to not be recognized or the ever common blue-screen issue.....

i didnt know how to boot off of the recovery partition, so i used my alien respawn to go back to factory state (thank god i created thoses disks)... I supose i can use a non-OEM version of the OS, but i really shouldnt have to.

I guess i will call support and get a new disk, if there even is one that works on the r3.....anyone else try a clean install using the OEM media?

I believe Mandrake loaded his OS onto his SSD from the disks shipped with the machine

I created an AlienRespawn usb and blasted it after that. Don't have my discs with me though, I can verify once I get home.

Silly Question (unless I am right) but......
Do you have a sdcard etc. plugged into your laptop (ready boost or ???)

Just ask because this was a common problem I found on my old R1 (the RicohMedia adapter would cause this same error during install if I left the sdcard in).
It would be fine if I took the sdcard out and waited until windows was set up and the correct drivers were loaded before putting it back in.

    Just a possibility (long shot)

Man, I ran into the same problem. It's really making me frustrated. Any word on why it's not working? I just got it in today and I ran into this. Bad luck. :(

Ok after a bit of googling it seems that installing the Intel RST driver may help. (When the Win 7 installation asks you where to install the system there's a button to provide extra hdd drivers.) I'll try that and let you guys know if it worked.

Good news if it works for all.

Anyone interested in making a step by step guide for adding an SSD to an R3 while fresh in their heads?

Note that I kept the BIOS SATA setting set to RAID for the whole time, even though I only have a single HDD. You might be able to install everything normally if you decide to change the setting to AHCI. My HDD is not SSD but the regular stock 320GB magnetic disk.

So i posted a bit ago about not being able to install windows off of the disk dell gave me. i could see the drive, install to it, but near the end i got a "setup can not run on this hardware" error. Thinking dell shipped me the wrong disk for my model, i called them. They sent me 3 disks, none of which came with my orginal system lol. A new OS disk (Green color disk, no alien logo, windows home Prem 64bit). they also sent me the media for Power DVD and a disk for the Roxio software. Im not complaining, becaused this was not included in the orginal box, but im a bit confused as to why they sent me this after i called but not included it in the box? i think you can download the roxio stuff, but the power dvd was not included with the r3 at all. Again, not complaining, but its odd.

To add: the disk the gave me was for Roxio Creator Premier as opposed to the "Starter" version that shipped with the unit. lol, bank error my favor..

Well the power DVD software says 'this software must be installed on a Dell system" lol so no dice there.

The Roxio however is the real deal. Adds a bunch of features

Yes I know, I could see the drive too, and install to it too, it only gave me the error at the very end of the installation. But even if you see the drive, you can still choose the extra driver, and this will fix your problem.

For me, adding the raid driver linked in this post durring the windows setup worked. I am now on a clean install of windows but with the look and feel of the alienware install.

I used the normal dell supplied win 7 dvd. As far as I know the solution should work for everyone.

    Ah. Sounds good.

Attention Mod: Can you sticky this thread, possibly with the actual solution in the first post? Or @ Busac, can you edit the first post with the solution for easy reference?

Would be very helpful for others who may be experiencing it, so they don't have to do massive searching/posting.

    Thx!
