Given that the i5, 4GB, and an HD6970m is more than enough for pretty much all games, this would be quite a nice laptop. Graphically a powerhouse while still mobile due to the switchable graphics and i5 2520's lower battery consumption compared to the i7 2720's.

So...is there any way to configure one with this specification? Should I ask a techie directly? I think I'd prefer a 900p screen as well...should come out to 1300 or less after deals and a switch to i5...where can I get one?!?!

    Thanks :)

Until Dell offers it that way you probably can't, especially since the warranty won't be in full effect on the entire system unless it was factory. I think the only chance you've got is to find someone selling one used that configured it that way, which again I don't think will happen until Dell offers them that way from the factory.

    I can't call someone?

I really really want the ability to shut off the GPU that Sager's unfortunately don't offer right now :(

    And a lower price...i5 2520 with HD6970m can't be more than 1300ish...

    ARGH!!! I want this!!!

i5 Dual core will bottleneck the very powerful 6970m specially now when many games actually does benefit from Quad cores, people are getting up to 6hours battery with the Quad core and 6970m (by using intel gpu) and i doubt that you need much more battery? getting Dual core will properly or a spare battery if you really must have more battery life

    Think of it this way

    1. I bet Dell will not provide i5 in their high-end model R3.
    2. According to 1, if you sell the i7 to get i5, you wont gain that much of money (obviously much less than the price difference).
    3. You may also have to keep the stock i7 for future warranty/replacement. That even costs you more.
    4. You save a couple of dollars now, but when you resell it, the loss would be more since who's gonna buy a R3 with i5 ?
