Just received my M17x R4 and everything is great! I do have one issue that is bugging me. once I start up and play a game the fan speed of the GPU picks up speed as it should. Once I'm done playing and head back to the desktop the fan speed remains at the same speed. It never slows down and I have checked the temps of the card and they are back at normal idle levels. the only way to get the fan to throttle back down is to reboot the machine and the fan will reset speed upon post. Is the fan controlled by the BIOS or by the drivers? any ideas as to why my fan speed logic isn't throttling back down?

You can use HWiNFO to set up a custom fan profile based on the GPU temps. More info here: Alienware Fan Control

    BIOS re-flash fixed the issue

Cool fix. So you just flash the bios with the one that's already in use? Is that a normally used fix by people?

Well, the fan speeds are controlled by the profiles in the BIOS. If the temps go back down and nothing is stressing the system then the fans should drop down. Since the OP has a brand new system, with a Dell 7970m that works fine, it would lead me to believe a re-flash could solve the issue.

That's my thought process behind it, anyway :p

I noticed I was having this issue today, finally decided to do the A05 BIOS upgrade, that seems to have fixed it.
