Just had the amd card put in my M17. Now every so often when I go from log in screen to windows home screen if flickers a little. No problems other than that. Should I be worried?

Try the latest video drivers available after you check the LCD cable again and reseat the video card. If you get to have any further issue you can send us an e-mail to [email protected] with your tag, phone and a brief description of the issue and we'll take care of you ASAP.

As of my understanding you just replaced the OEM card for a different one. That makes you disassemble the computer and some components might have not been properly connected. Those things happen sometimes.

I can give it a shot. It wasn't me who did the work it was someone dell sent out. Long story but it's been a month and I'm tired of all these problems.

I have the same flicker thing too. I don't remembering it happening on the drivers (12.1 or something like that, I'm not sure) when I first got it, but I started to notice it when I installed 12.7 beta on top of those. Although I did have to get my screen replace twice around the time installed it, so it could be the cable not sitting right, but I doubt that. It only does it when it doesn't require a password to login and goes straight to your desktop, the cmd prompt still pops up though.

Definitely check the cables and update drivers to 12.8, 12.7 seem to have many problems

Why did your screen need to be replaced twice ?

The original had debris behind the glass. (A tech came out to do this) The first replacement didn't have the web cam put in, the the bottom of the panel was warped, and the black cover, with the alien head, didn't latch on correctly. Minute after he left, I noticed. "So to make a long story short," I got a second screen that looks a lot better. The end.

P.S. After logging in a few times from power off and needing a password to login, there is still no screen flicker. Weird that it wont do it know. I might take off the login password and see if it still does it.

After taking my password off, it did not flash. A question to you, do you have the standard windows login in screen instead of the alienware one? I had to install the windows registry thing to get my alienware login/welcome background around the time I put my password on, so that could be it.

It might have nothing to do with the video card. Can be caused by your desktop scaling preference...or at least that's how it is for me. I have mine set on 125%, so when I logon to my R2, the screen flashes/flickers briefly. Sometimes is flashes several times, other instances only once. It seems to depend upon if there are any extraneous processes Windows needs to complete at startup. If there are, my login screen will flash a couple of times, if not, the screen will only flash once. Might be something for you to check on.

This makes sense, I would go with this.
