I know a while back people were upgrading the RAM in their R2s from 8GB to 16GB. What bandwidths are compatible with the R2?

    M17xR2 only supports 1333 MHz DDR3 with a quad core i7. I bought 2 x Corsair Value Select 8 GB 1333 modules, works perfectly.

For normal use, outside of the benchmark planet :D, there wont be any difference. For me ram is the cheaper the better.

Sometimes not even about cheaper RAM, dealing with no name RAM manufacturers can sometimes mean you just go buy new RAM because they are impossible to reach or customer service so crappy. Normally I buy Crucial or Corsair RAM, and this time Corsair was hella cheaper than Crucial wanted for those 8 GB sticks.

I bought 16gb vengance clocked at 1600MHz it's working fine but everytime I restart my laptop it won't boot back, I need to manually turn it off and on again. Any ideas?

Does your old RAM produce the same result?

The R2 isn't fully compatible with that configuration therefore you might encounter stability issues or unexpected ones such as that one.

You could use a program like thaiphoon burner to edit them for now and put them to 1333mhz speeds with nice tight latencies.

Do you have another alternative? A freeware program like that would be nice.

There is no freeware alternative and if you ask me Thaiphoon burner is worth the money.
