    I have a r3 with 2630, 1.5gb nvidia, 6gb ram factory installed, 60hx 1080p screen.

I added the gadget to the desktop that shows current computer usage and the RAM usage stays at about 40% when not doing anything. Is this normal? All power saver options are set for better battery life.

I'm at around 30% (2.4 GB) on 8 GB of RAM, and I have Chrome opened with 2 tabs, MSN, Steam, Microsoft Security Essentials, and background processes running. Could be normal to be hovering around that.

EDIT: And, on Balanced Power Plan.

Its normal of you have some programs that start at boot. All depends on how many programs and wharf programs. Type msconfig in the start menu and there is a tab that will tell you what programs are launched and loaded into the memory at start. Those programs are loaded into the memory so they start up quicker when you double click them. Also depends on which and how many services start up. To check that you can go to check "services" in the start menu. Click the tab that will organize them by automatic, delayed and manual. Auto will load at start up. Manual will load when that program is launched. Delayed will scar a couple min after boot. The less programs and services launched at startup the faster your boot time will be and the less memory will be used. But the memory is there so you may as well is it. That is unless you are running out of memory.

the more RAM is installed, the more RAM system uses :)

I always lulz at people who stand that more than 4GB is unnecessary :D

Idk if that is true or not but on my r3 with 8GB of ram installed I use 1.8-2.27GB on startup. With a few windows open and other shenanigans running I'll be around 2.5GB. My other laptop with 4GB of ram installed uses 1.4-1.7GB with the same things running... so based on that it agrees with what M18x said.
