Hi!
Well, finally, I tried out to return my M17, and I have finally received a new M17x!![]()
By default, the machine is coming with 4GB RAM at 1067MHz.
I am firmly decided to upgrade the RAM to 8GB, no matter the cost.
What matter to me is, to get the maximun performance from the RAM, according to my CPU, FSB, GPU (or something else involved).
I have been reading many posts here, where it is said that I should go for 1333Hz (I guess still not 1600hz for laptops). But there are some things I get lost, for example in the FSB.
The question is:
Which type of RAM (8GB) should I buy to get the maximun performance for the laptop?
Thanks for you help.
My specs are:
Intel Core i7 840QM (1,86 GHz, caché de 8 MB)
1x ATI 5870 1GB DDR5
I can not tell you about the FSB. Here I get lost. I do not know wether I have or not in my laptop, where to search it, or how to change it in the case it is neccesary to match the RAM speed.
Thanks thanks thanks![]()

204 pin SO-DIMM at 1333mhz is available on newegg although there are only like 3-4 brands of 4gb x 2.
Gskill and two others. The RAM isn't that expensive really and it much cheaper than what Dell charges -
Mmm.. thanks DbZ,
actually, it is very cheap!
Should I concern about the FSB I have in my laptop, in order to sincronyze both RAM and CPU speeds, and get the maximun possible speed?
Happy new year! (Btw) -

Hey all,
Silly question, Newegg.com has the following for sale. I just wanted to know if it mattered if I bought 2 of the single 4GB sticks or if i had to buy the 8GB Kit. The only difference I could tell for the specs is the 8GB kit says Dual Channel Kit and the other does not. I'm just wanting to see if I can save 15 dollars or not really. Thanks for any help you can offer.
$39.99 for OCZ 4GB 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory
$95.99 for OCZ 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Laptop Memory -
Wow, prices have droped. I bought the G.Skill kit when it was still $450+ over a year ago!

^^Well that's the "beauty" of technology!

you can buy the 2 sticks individually for $15 cheaper and get the same thing.
i paid $350 for my 8GB. And I sold the 4GB here in the marketplace to offset it a bit. -
I just put my 8gb of ram in, works without a hitch
, 3 min install. I have WoW running on Ultra on one screen, and typing this on my laptop screen, and I am at 51%, was at 85% doing the same thing. Big difference? No sure, but it makes me feel more comfortable
this is what I put in:
