So I was reading through the owners manual online, thanks to someone here who made a link to it in one of these threads. I got to the specifications part at the end of the manual, and there was a spec that said something like Backlight LED color = RGB. I thought that they did away with the RGBLED screens and didn't offer them in the R3. They certainly didn't mention it online, whether you select the 1600x900, 1920x1080 60hz non-3D, or the 1920x1080 120hz 3D screen. Anyone know what the deal is? IS this in fact a beautiful RGBLED screen, or what? Thanks for any clarification.

Well from what I heard from owners of the R2 and the R3, is that the R2 screen looks better. I don't have the exact spec of the monitor, it may just be a small %. But either way, the R2 screen looks better.

I have heard the same, I was just looking for someone to confirm or deny that the screen in the R3 is RGBLED, as that is the impression I got from reading the users manual.

Anyone who actually has an R2 and an R3 sitting side by side care to comment on screen comparison?

RGB = more vibrant colors. I had an XPS16 with RGB, bought one of the first (recalled) R3s (3d 120hz). When I first saw the R3 screen, I thought it looked "dull," even without a side by side. Side by side with the two, the difference was noticeable. I returned the R3 for an R2. Now I have an R2 with RGB and I wish it had the sandy bridge and better battery life. Oh well.

To sum it up, yes the RGB screen is that much better. Vibrant colors that make the entire screen look sharper.

Seems opposite for me. I was using M15x and just fired up the R3...seems 100% a brighter, more vibrant screen. And I use both on AC power, so it sure seems a much better screen. So new to me though, I don't even know if I have the 120hz turned on yet lol...

Does the 15x have RGB LED screen? If you've never seen a RGB LED screen you don't know what your missing.

Just so you know you are just oversaturating your colors, It gives a cartoon like effect and if you were to view digital pics they would be seriously oversaturated. You'd have really really Green Grass for example. Might be ok with games since they aren't of real people or places. Sony TV's have a Vivid mode which is the exact same thing and with most TV manufacturers it's used to give a big wow factor especially for the cartoon type movies they play in Best Buy. For videography it ruins it tho. Just saying....

Well , did i said to OVERSATURATE your screen ?!

My advice is just increase it until you feel that the colour are fine , comfortable and vibrant

Yes, you did say to oversaturate the colors on the screen. :p
If you are familar with Video/Photography you would know that is known as oversaturation. It's like when you go to Best Buy and all the colors really pop out at you. They are very oversaturated. The manufacturers put in a "Vivid" mode that's designed to do that. Different companies call it different things.
Don't act like it's a bad thing, it's terrible for normal pics as they will be way off, color wise. But if you like your games oversaturated then go for it.
You won't harm your laptop. But you won't get accurate color representation either. So Dirt that is supposed to be brown might appear a bit orangey due to too much red being mixed in to make it more vibrant.

hey all i just received my r3 a couple days ago and have an r2 also so ill do some side by side comparison soon as i get a few min to do so but for now i can tell you the r2 is much brighter and has quite abit more vivid colours than my r3 (r2=single ati 5870 1920x1200 60hz -r3=nvidia 460 1920x1080 120hz) but the only thing so far i noticed imediatly i dont care for is the fact they changed the case from aluminum to plastic :( ,but even though its still pretty strong and hard to tell the diffence but i really love my r2 cause its pretty much indistructable, like i read somewhere in this thread only if the r2 had the new gen chip it would be the bomb, but lets just see what kind of beast the m18x is gonna be!

I think someone mentioned in another thread that his eyes were less strained with the R3's WLED than the R2's RGB.

I honestly see relatively little differences between the screens. Now, I'm coming from an incredibly dim screen, decent contrast ratio, and terrible colour saturation, so pretty much everything will be a huge upgrade to me.
