Ok, so its a common problem on the R3, but is it something that DELL fix, or do they replace the machine?
-
most likely they just didn't push the media bar in properly when installing, the media bar is secured by small cylindrical push clips and if it isnt pressed down firmly during installation it will be raised.
you could probably fix it yourself but I would just call dell and ask them to send a tech to you, shouldn't take them long to fix -
I think is better if you fix it. It doesn't take longer than 2 minutes to remove it... Lucky me, I do not have that problem, but I had to remove it to add my HyperX memory in it and was very easy to do that...
-
Sorry, what I mean by fixing it*, it is actually easy to be replaced if it is damaged. Otherwise like dioxcyde said, maybe it is not well placed... and you may have to try to do that yourself. If not, call dell and let them come and look at it. That is why you pay so much
-
Or like mine, replaced twice and the same problem. There was actually no problem with the media bar, it is the chassis underneth the media bar that is causing the problem. If your media bar has raised then it more than likely the chassis.
If you take the media off, it will move back to how it should be, yeah. Once you re-fit it back on the R3, hence the problem will raise again. -
Hmmm.....OK, so i guess if its easy to get off and re-seat ill try that first. Is there any "howto" on how to get the media bar off?
If that doesnt fix it and its a chassis problem like T2050 said, then im assuming thats a full R3 replacement job? -
This Video was meant for instructing people on how to replace your ram but leads upto removing the faceplate containing the media bar because if you wanted to install 16gb of ram you need to remove the keyboard, so just follow this upto the faceplate removal, it is fairly easy, but be careful, the faceplate is like half plastic half metal and could break easily if forced the wrong way, you need to gently pull it out of its slots.
If it is a problem with the chassis then yes they will need to replace the whole system. -
Because of this issue and my keyboard/touchpad/media bar imprinting on the screen they said they will replace it, well first they said they wanted me to send it to a depot for repair and I said hell NO! Waiting for a call from them for this to happen. Hopefully they don't back track on their promise. -
Ok, so i though what the hell, why should i fix this myself, i paid good dosh for this, they can fix it!
Ive only had the system just on 3 weeks so i called into DELL to log a service call. After sending them photoes of the raised media bar, and in addition a misaligned touch pad, i get an email back telling me
"We had the pictures carefully checked and figured out that the palm rest (which includes the touchpad), keyboard trim (the plastic surrounding the keyboard including the media bar) and the keyboard needs to be replaced"
Hmmm.....not too happy bout that amount of surgery on a brand new system.
Ive asked for a complete replacement, which of course they are disputing.
Im not being unreasonable am i? -
I finally got a replacement laptop after I had 2 services with no fix. The replacement R3 has the same issue with the media, but is better by far. At this stage I am happy with it.
Expect some of your keys on the keyboard to make contact with the glass display when closed. I can see this on both that I currently have. I am comparing the two machines closely before the original will be sent back.
From what I gather, as right as this moment I am looking at the area with both media bars removed. I can see there is no screw hole (top right) for the media bar on the right hand side, only on the left hand side (top left) where there is not that mcuh pressure anyway. The media bar under side is fairly soild and protudes down a little bit. There are two like dampers on the chassis side where the media bar sits, it is likely this adds some upwards pressure here as well. -
ok, thanks for the sanity check.
its going to be a bit harder for me, as i havnt had any services yet, but replacing the KB, media bar, palm rest, touchpad, KB trim and whatever else right out of the box is something i dont feel i should have to suck up so early on.
I havnt really checked the screen yet, what is it i should look for, are there any marks or scratches that result from this? -
I can see on mine after a few weeks there are marks and lines on the glass screen from the media bar buttons, the keyboard button in certain areas, and the touch pad plastic led surround.
I not so worried now I can see the replacement is more or less the same, its just bad design for the asking price.
There was screen flicker with my original R3, that was the worst thing. I didn't notice at first, as I won't run the screen any lower until I noticed it a few weeks later when I did decide to tone down the brightness in darker rooms. -
I hope you get your issues fixed.
Anybody know of a screen protector for this 1920x1080 screen?
