Guys i got my Alienware r3 2820/6970/8gb delivered on Wednesday. Everything is working perfectly except today, for some reason, i was watching a video i had downloaded when the RAM just went through the roof. It went to 95% and the only thing i was running was Windows media Player?

Anyway to check why and should i be worried? it hasnt happened since i done a reboot.

This happens to me often, especially while programming (and executing recursive methods). The ram gets filled up with garbage from programs and software that leave behind data in the ram.

There is no need to worry about this, once your ram gets full, a garbage collector in windows will take care of it.

it seems to be Bitlord that causing the spike. As soon as i close it it drops down to is norm 18%

Ive never known bitlord to take up so much RAM.

    any ideas why?

Who/what's the garbage collector called? Is it a program that we have to download?

I think someone said that in Windows7, it likes to use up the ram, so we don't waste it. I remember in Windows XP, ram usage would be at like 5% or less while idling, but in Win7, my ram seems to be at 45-46% on idle. Like right now while I'm typing to you it's at 46%, whereas in XP it would've been wayyyyyyy less than that. I was like you too, when I first started using Win7 (moreso with this laptop than my dinolaptop or dinodesktop where the ram usage would stay low). But over time, I started to ignore it cuz I began to understand that it makes no sense to have 4gb and not use it.
