When I bought the laptop from Dell, I ordered it with 32gb of ram and Dell shipped it with Samsung DDR3L 1600 (PC3L 12800)

Will DDR3L 2133 (PC3L 17000) work if I want to put faster memory in the laptop or is DDR3L 2133 (PC3L 17000) not compatible with the M17xR4?

I think the 3840QM controller will not work with the 2133 mhz memory, highest would be 1866. On the other hand 3920/3940XM CPUs are compatible with 2133 ram.

It is also not cost effective upgrade - you would not see the difference in everyday usage, even in gaming. A faster sata SSD (as msata port in R4 is Sata 2 3Gb/s only) is the best upgrade for everyday tasks and a faster graphics card would be the best upgrade for gaming I think.
