    Hey all,

So I have my R3 incoming and I went ahead with the 4gb stock ram since many people suggested that I go ahead and add it aftermarket. I'm very comfortable doing this, can't be harder than messing with the R2 right? :) :)

Anyways, the processor is a 2630QM. Can anyone give me a suggestion as to what is a good bang for the buck ram that will work well with this processor/mobo/etc? I'd like to hear what you guys have been putting in your R3s and whether or not you noticed performance increases.

im getting the hyperx pnp 1866 kit (8gb)

using that same cpu, not sure how great it wil be but it works at its full speed even with that cpu so should be good!

I have 2x4GB 1600MHz (running on 1333MHz) Kingston HyperX in my R2. The ram is great, but to be honest I do not notice any difference from the 2x2GB stock Hynix ram. It seems like 8GB is not needed unless you work with video editing etc.

i agree. but in the future who knows. if you get 2x4gb now you can get another 2x4 later and have loads of ram :)

if you get 2x2gb you can only go up to 8gb without buying all new sticks

There are a number of discussions on this topic. The general consensus is that 1600MHz memory is the sweet spot. You wont notice the difference with faster RAM unless you're using the Intel graphics extensively (since the speed of the memory directly affects the graphics).

Keep in mind the 2630qm does not natively support 1600MHz memory like the higher processors do, so you should be sure to get the PNP variation of the memory to reduce any possible BIOS issues with it. That's not to say the non PNP version wont work, in fact I believe a number of people here have it installed with the 2630qm, but the timings are more native on the PNP version if I recall, the non-PNP defaults to 1333MHz I believe despite being 1600 capable.

hmmm... has anyone any benches of real world game performance 1600 vs 1866?

all the ones on google seem to be with igp.

reason im upgrading to 8gb hyperx 1866 is that then i can just get another kit and have 16gb at some point. + can sell old ram to offset a bit

204 pin is the one you need.
