Hey all 1st post so go easy.
I've been having a random reboot issue with my 17x r3, I've just installed 16g of corsair vengeance 1600 ram (4x4) and a ocz agility 3 ssd.
It first happened during battlefield 3 .
The thing is im having trouble tracking down what is causing the issue, it isn't temp as i got it to repeat the fault after 15 mins using prime and the cpu temps we in there 70's the SSD smart shows no issues.

I've ram mem test multy passes all with no issues, windows mem test again all good and alienware diagnosis all passes ok.
So im getting a little lost now.
Just done a reseat of the mem and running prime again
Thanks
EDIT: Just ran prime for 1 hour with no errors, i'm hoping the re-seat may of fixed it![]()

Do you have your ram timing right in the bios?
-
Its fit and forget so i haven't touched it. Used CPUZ to check and its correct
800mhz(ish) 9.9.9.24 2T -
Hey all sorry to re-bump this. But i'm still getting the issue of reboots, I'm now using intel burn test. I don't think its a ram issue to be honest but i think its related to the ram (if you get me) I'm thinking 16 gig at 1600 maybe too much for the system.
Retesting now with only 8 gigs installed to check the pairs but i've got a feeling ill have no issues
Any feed back would be great -
If you could explain in detail what happens exactly and the give us a full list of your specs that would help.
Also IIRC, the Agility 3 doesn't have a temp sensor. The temperature displayed is a constant "fake" temp. Before it was set at 128 degress C. Then OCZ put out a "fix" to change it to 36 or something like that. -
@ aznpos531, There's not much detail to explain really, when the system is stressed it reboots
, if i had a little more i would give it.
To sum up so far,
Had my first shut down when playing BF3, after i had done my upgrades.
Managed to reproduce a reboot using prime94.
Run memtest to test the ram but passes multy passes no probs
done a reseat of the ram and passes a hour of prime (all good i thought)
Decided to give it a hit with intel burn test on extreme to stress everything and still have the fault.
Decided to test the memory in pairs in the different slots and passed burn no worries in both the upper and lower slots. (proved the memory is not faulty and i do not have a faulty slot)
So I have now slowed the memory to 1333 (mmmm what fun that was BSOD beeps mmm lol) but i've got it done and have refitted all 16gig.
Just about to run burn again and see if this has fixed it.
Mmm can't seem to get the sig to work???
Anyway system spec M17X R3, 2670qm, 16g corsair vengeance 1600, ocz agility3 240, GTX580M, 3D, Killer networks wifi card -
Hmm...I'm curious to know what led you to suspect the RAM? I'm running 16GB of the exact same RAM with no issues, even stressing with Prime95.
To edit your sig, go to the upper right corner of any page, click "Quick Links" and under "User Control Panel" click "Edit Signature".
edit: Nevermind. I re-read your OP and you said the issues showed after you upgraded the RAM and SSD. Just to clarify, is the SSD now your boot drive? -
@ aznpos, Yes mate SSD is boot drive, tied it with both the 08 and 08 bios, as i though it might of been linked the SATA but made no difference.
Got a result after reducing the mem to 1333 though, passed burn on extreme.
Have you given it a hit with intel burn test on extreme, I found prime hit and miss (just for interest)
I also gave corsair a e-mail -
Just ran Intel Burn Test on max hitting a max temp of 83 degrees C and still no issues.
Is your Agility 3 running firmware version 2.15?
Is your SSD installed in bay 1 (the one in the middle)?
Are you using IRST? -
yes to all the above mate.....
mmmm will try with just a mechanical drive just to confirm if its the SSD. -
When I was using a 120GB Agility 3 as my boot drive IRST gave my problems (mainly random hangs and lockups). I got rid of if and all my problems went away. Shaved a few seconds off my boot time too
Not sure if it's the cause of your issues though. -
Could be i'll give it a go first
-
aznpos531, gave it anouth hit with intel burn after uninstalling IRST and passed with no issues.....
Has it fixed it ???
I hope so mate have some rep.
I'll keep this thread updated with any further changes -
Hmm...Interesting. No way to know for sure. Only time will tell. Keep us updated
