Just got my new M17x yesterday and I have an SSD that I want to install. Dell/Alienware does not ship the Win8 disk with the system and the Alienrespawn wouldn't work as it was looking for the original 500gb hdd that the system shipped with. I called Dell and they said the only way to do this was for them to mail me the media (again why is this not thrown in the damn box with the expensive laptop?). Disk will be here this afternoon.

My question is this- I will have to redownload and install all of the drivers. I'm not really interested in Enduro. Do I still need to install the Intel 4000hd drivers also from the dell site or can I just install the latest CATALYST drivers from AMD for the 7970m?

    Thanks all!

nope windows 8 come with intel hd graphics and AMD driver included. After you finished your installation just download the latest beta (or WHQL) and install it over everything. Thats what I did a few days ago.

I tried to install the 4000hd drivers and it said that they were not compatable. All drivers came from the Dell website also. When i go to "Device Manager" it shows the 7970m as the display adapter and the 4000hd is nowhere to be found. All is working well and there is no sign of the 4000hd (no intel icon in the tray). I am also not getting the "!" that something isn't installed properly. I do not have a problem with this as I personally hate the idea of a switching card due to all of the issues others have had. Just wanted to make sure this is normal as this is my first time dealing with a switching video card pc. lol. Thanks guys!

The "!" is probably the free fall sensor. Since you have an SSD now (i assume you have installed it) you don't need it.

Thats what i'm saying...i'm NOT getting any of the "!" so everything is installed properly. The Dell HD4000 drivers are telling me that they aren't compatable.

You need to be in iGFX mode to install iGFX Drivers - the install will throw a fit if you try and do it whilst running on your discrete card, hence the compatibility error. As above ^^^^ try installing after a FnF7 switch, should work fine then.
