Getting my m17x r4 soon. Just wondering, how fast is the 7970m. Is it really slightly faster than a gtx 570 stock? And a gtx 580 when overclocked?

And then was also wondering why people say the gtx 680m's the most powerful mobile gpu currently available. Even though in the most popular games, and particularly the more open-world games the 7970m get's quite a few fps better than the gtx 680m in the benchmarks.

    Thanks

There are many threads here comparing these two cards. Read up. Both are pretty awesome latest-gen cards. The Nvidia is a whole lot more expensive. If its worth it to you, is really up to you.

Consider a 7970m as an underclocked Desktop 7870. They share the same architecture, hardware specification. Just the clocks are different

A lot of this can be due to the fact that some games are designed to run better using an Nvidia card or AMD card...They are both amazing pieces of technology and will keep you gaming for years to come. Nvidia will definitely come with a higher price tag but some people would rather have Nvidia then AMD, personally I switched to AMD because I wasn't willing to pony up the cash for the Nvidia's anymore and I have not regretted it at all. They will each shine in their own way but I wouldn't say one is any better then the other. The Nvidia might be technically the "fastest card" but not by much, the graphs they release are so misleading it is stupid. They out do each other by 5mhz and the title goes back and forth.

Yea. My 7970m runs great even on stock clocks. I may overclock it in the future but I have never done so in the past so it is unlikely.

I think guys that 680m is faster if you OV+OC.
Stock to stock are the same.

The 7970M is equal to the desktop's HD7850 in every way. It's just barely faster than a GTX 480.

The 680M is faster when you overclock due to the higher TMU count and the higher shader count as well. So... yeah... the 680M is better if you wanna overclock, but only if you wanna overclock. :p

    The 7970m is a beast!

Nothing I have has even put a dent in the performance of the card except metro 2033 at Max. Everything else was flawless (Fallout3/New vegas, ME 1,2,3, Skyrim, Minecraft, Crysis 1/2, CODMW 2, Darksiders 2, Two Worlds 2, Portal 1/2. All those games run at max/near max settings.

So who cares if some article says such and such card is the fastest out there...the 7970 is a beast and works great. Which to me, makes the extra money for nvidia cards not really seem worth it.
